    good suggestion. thanks.

    but, it did not work.

i was using excel 2003 version and tried formatting - once in blue, another time in non automatic black. nothing. the printer turns out blank paper.
    --
i might have messed up the settings.
i used both greyscale and non greyscale settings to no avail.
    ----
it would be good if i could print black using a full color cartridge. again, please advise.

i converted excel to word. did your suggestion and it did not work.

just to be sure- i printed some other non office page with colors and colors were printed (actually i printed the home page of fixya.com in blue.

so something is happening. the text was blue.

repeating myself. i want to be able to print black text even though the canon ip 1500 printer has an empty black ink cartridge.

i remember there was a way to do it. i forgot it or it was for a different printer (epson?)

  • stephencresp Nov 13, 2009

There must be a way to print black text using canon printers when the is no more ink in the black cartridge; but there is ink in the color cartridges.

i am not interested in a work around- although the earlier suggestion of using Word-format-color was brilliant.

my printer does have the latest drivers and the ink cartridges were in the proper slots. they print using a different work around.

    thanks to them as well.

your suggestion was good; however, i am interested in not doing that work around.

i am trying to find a way to print black using the canon printer not via another program software.

i had an epson printer that had in its program a way to do that.

although no one was able to really answer the question.. i felt this suggestion and its work around was sufficient. the answerer was the first to recommend a solution that was viable.

    thankd

The Modern Printers, regardless of Brand have their Software set in such a way that ALL Cartridges must have ink in them for the Printer to work, and for MOST Printers you must use the Brand name Crtridge. Personally I try to use the Calidad or other Cheper Cartridge or even try to refll the old Branded Cartridge...... does not always work.. but you could try refilling...... Don't use the really Cheap in... use Pelican, Calidad or............LD and SKYFORCE are 2 Brands of Cartridge I have bought online and had no trouble with on a Brother All in one..... m stillrunning Canon on my new Printer.... but the Brother is working fine on the LD and Skyforce......

The easiest way is to change the colour of the text you want to print to be impure black.

For example in Word:

Select the text that you want to change and select Format and then Font then Font Colour then More Colours then from the bottom of the colour popup go to the white to black set of hexagons (see diagram below) and select the one shown - that is 1 from the last on the right. Then select OK and then print the document. This will force the font colour data going to the printer to mix the colour from the colour cartridges and ignore the black selection.

Strange as I ofetn do this myself and have just done so toprove that it works with no problem on another Canon Pixma.

Anyway, the next thing you should do is to reload the latest printer driver. You can get the latest fior your operating system from the following Canon Suppoprt link. Select the O/S.

One other option you can try is by going to the colour balance settings in the driver and adjusting any of the colours.

For printing from IE you can go to File - Page Setup - Change Font - Colour and select a different colour.

You can also select enable ICM (Windows Colour Management) in the Print Driver as this will also achieve the same effect of using the colour carts instead of black.

I see so ya are saying that you have a full color but no black at all ...and the text is black ...easy ...
if you do not mind the color ...just open the document ..or copy it into word Microsoft office ...and select all the document and change the color ...in dark blue ...or some dark brown ....
after that save the document ..and print it ...if the printer has colors it will print it anyway ...and a dark brown is not that unusual for a text ..
let me know if you didn't understand ....

if there is no option for this in the printing wizard..there is no other solution ...try again to print it ...for a few times ...and see if it takes black from the colors...automatically ..but I don't think so ...you are right that it should do it ...that's why I say to try again ...and see if there is a case to check ...for B/W and colored ..there might be a setting on the printer ...or a case in the printing wizard...
anyway ..what I've suggested first its not that hard...I sow that you already converted them into word...so ...just select all and change the color with another dark one ..at least to see if it 's working ..
Im talking about 20 seconds and 2 clicks..

When you have an empty cartridge the printer dont work. Confirm that the ink tanks are installed properly or Change the empty ink cartridge or Check to install the print head.

My canon MP145 three-in-one printer cannot print because the coloured ink has finished. How can i continue to print using black ink only?

Hi joyce2020
Some printers do print even if one cartridge is empty.
This is what you have to do. Goto the print setting page. you will find check boxes for Print in Color OR Black& White.
Usually, the color box is checked. When you check the box for color, you can print in black and white as well provided the text is written in B&W. If you check the B&W, the printer will print everything in black including color text and graphics.

Hope this will work for you.
Good Luck

Can i print black and white text only when colour cartridges are empty but black is full on an ip14300?

you can make a selection from the File->Print option of your word processor or whatever package you are using. it is your command that sets the printer to B&W or color. If your Black ink finishes then the printer even if set to color will print black as near black with color inks.

Non printing epson c20ux

Sounds like color cartridge ran out. Were u using color to print black?

Try new color cartridge.

Then if you don't need color go in and set to use black cartridge to print black (text).

If you need color on something only takes a minute to turn color back on.

Since printer worked you can go in and select black which uses the black cartridge and if it prints gives validity to a bad/empty color cartridge.

Good luck.

My new canon pixma ip1500 printer will print out documents but not photos

by which I infer that Black only documents are ok, colored ones fail
the color ink cartridge is not seated properly, or is empty,
the OEM cartridges supplied with the unit are not full, dont last long, and dry up if unused
the connectors between the cartridge and the printer get dirty and may need to be cleaned
or there may still be the plastic security tab on the color cartridge.

not a guarantee, something to try

NOT PRINTING COLOR

I have the same problem.  At first I thought the printhead clogged but dipping it in solvent did not work.  I guess the only thing we could do is to buy a new print head, but at the cost it's going at, we might as well get a new printer.  Other than that try sent a RMA.
