Question about Boston Acoustics MicroMedia Computer Speakers

1 Answer

Hi. have recently changed computer systems. My boston 2.1 system , from 2001, however has a double 3.5mm jack plug, whereas the sound card in new computer takes a treble 3.5mm jack plug. The speaker system is excellent and I wish to use on my new system. Have tried a Maplin 3.5mm stereo to 3.5mm mono adaptor plug but sound system does not work on new computer. Can I get another adaptor for the boston, or is it now obsolete?? John T

Hi John!

Lucky you there are adapters for almost everything according to sound:) so you can easy buy an adapter that solves your problem,
Go to a good store that is specialist on "sounds"/"HiFi" and they will sell you the adapter you need, No need to get rid of the boston system.

Good luck to you

Adapting Boston Acoustics BA7800 for use with TV

Here's what you need:

http://www.vpi.us/cable-audio.html

Scroll down to the 3.5mm Stereo Jack / RCA Plug x 2 Y-Cable

Converts your TRS connectors to dual RCA plugs. You said you have 3 TRS connectors. Does the TV have 3 sets of RCA plugs you can use with this? If not, you may not be able to get full surround sound, just stereo sound, from your TV - and you'll need some RCA splitters to plug two (or three) cables into one port. I know you can get those at Radio Shack.

Hello k andrew, hi, check to see if the computer has detected the sound card circuit, usually on the system list of hard ware devices. if not need to install sound driver. On windows 7 right click my computer . properties . device manager.

Sound output is low nowadays even at full volume whereas before it was ok. I didn't change anything with my computer nor did I change my speakers.

Two possible causes.1) Vol Settings changed in windows2) Bad hardware
1) Check your system's sound settings:

For Xp
  • Goto Control Panel
  • Double Click Sound and Audio devices / Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices
  • In device Volume Click Advance
  • Master Volume Control Window will open
  • Increase all the volumes to max, also make sure that Mute us UNCHECKED.

OR
  • From the bottom right corner of your screen in system tray, double click a small speaker icon and open Master Volume Control.

For Vista and Windows 7
  • From system tray (its at bottom right corner of your screen) double click on small speaker icon, it will open Volume mixer
  • Increase the volume to max.

2) If this does not work, then test your speakers by connecting it to some other system and vice versa.
If you get desired sound volume when you connect some other speakers to your system, then you have to change your speakers. And if your speakers are working fine on other system then you may have to purchase a new sound card.

My Boston BA735 system does not work on new computer

Your sound card must have a digital output plug, which is generally yellow and says DIGITAL OUT. As far as I know its not digital-out with software but digital-out with hardware only. Find a picture of a SoundBlaster Live model number ct4780 and see that it has 5 plugs plus a joystick connection. On this particular card the yellow is the DIGITAL OUT plug.

Boston Acoustics Computer Speakers no sound

This speaker system requires a digital audio input, which most older systems don't have. The sound card that was built into your Gateway can put out either a digital or analog signal depending on how you have it set. Chances are your new sound card might be able to output in digital mode as well, but you may have to turn it on manually. Try double-clicking your volume icon in your system tray, then click the "advanced" button at the bottom left. This should bring up a window that lets you adjust the treble and bass, but it should also give you an "other options" area that lets you turn on digital output. If your new card supports digital output, the option should be there. If the card does not support it, you will have to use a different card. I hope this helps.
