Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

The present situation is that when the dvd recorder is connected to AC electric main, the display panel show " WELCOME" and stayed. But then the recorder cannot be switched on by pressing any key on the remote control or on the recorder. Previously, I had sucessfully restarted the machine by pressing down the (on/standby) button on the recorder for more than 10 seconds or so, then the "WELCOME" displayed change to clock display, and the DVD button/indicator on the extreme right is lited on,and the machine was turned on & worked. But the following day I turn off the recorder & try to start the machine ,I failed.

    Generally, my recorder is connected to the AC main all the time . Only on occasions when I met troubles with the machine, & no quick soloving, I will unplug the machine, but it is rare. Nearly 99.99 % of the time my recorder is connected to the main,the 0.01 % unplug time happened over

    the past few weeks.

    There are very very few troubles but 2 no. that really bothering me.

    (1) Failure to restart--- ( started 1 month ago) { no. of occasion = 1 to 2 times because I

    dare not to turn off the machine }

    (2) Cannot do recording , screen shows " The disc is dirty "-----(started 1 year ago) { no. of

    occasion = also few, 2 to 3 times , it return to normal if I stop using or turn off the recorder for a while }

    Recently, I had erased a lot of recorded titles from the Hard Drive Memory , because I think if the

    storage is too full it might be not so good to the usage of the machine. Now my HDD storage is 80 hours to the maximum limit of 96 hours. In fact, for the past 7 months, my recordings is quite

    large in amounts , mainly using dvd version, rarely used HDD as it is always full already, but these 7

    months was quite peaceful without trouble until appro. 1 month ago. when the failure of restarting occured.

    Finally: My recorder is SONY model RDR-HX1020 (dvd , Hard Disk) bought app. 18 months ago.

There are two problems in the unit 1) the number one problem is power supply and number 2) is the reading lens. there is a power supply board in the unit. on that power supply board there are some electric components that are got bit weak.so some times if the weak components do not support the unit does not start properly and so there is starting problem now number 2 problem the lens problem.in the unit there is a lens ,which is alsop called the EYE of the unit.if there is dust got collected on that eye then it will not see the disk in the unit and so dirty disc or no disk or disc error messages comes up.aso the lens needs to be cleaned and reseated. also you can get new replaCEment power supply board.this clears the problem completely.

Hi,

First of all have you had the unit unplugged from the mains for any amount of time? Also has the unit begun to develop any other problems apart from freezing on the "Welcome" screen?

Also can you post the make and model number of the DVD recorder here please.

Regards.

    I recommend that you unplug the unit from the wall and leave it disconnected for around 24 hours.

    After that time plug it back in and see if has reset itself. This method works on many units that refuse to turn on freeze on the welcome screen.

    Good luck and let me know how you get on.

Dvd recorder in standy wont work - blue standby light showing!

The main power supply board has the fault. It might be replaced. It is best to replace as card basis, rather than making 'surgery' to it.

When I use the timer to record a TV show with my DVD-R155, unit locks up.

If you can afford it purchase a TIVO. I had a a video and dvd player and it drove me mad. This unit records 2 programs at once with just the press of a button.
you can watch tv at the same time. Also you can rewind situations on live tv to watch it again. Top unit. I am 73 and I have no problem using it. Love it!

Sony rdr-hx720 tray won't open and says traylocked?

The disc tray does not open and you cannot remove the disc after you press Z (open/close). ,Turn off the recorder. Once the clock appears in the front panel display, disconnect the mains lead. (If the recorder does not turn off or if the clock does not appear in the front panel display, disconnect the mains lead anyway.) Connect the mains lead again while pressing down A on the recorder, and release the button when the disc tray opens. Then, keep [/1 on the recorder pressed for about ten seconds until "WELCOME" appears in the front panel display

If you only purchased it 3 months ago it should still be under warranty.

Just bring it back to your place of purchase for a refund or exchange.

there is usualy a snall pin hole under the tray insert a paper clip into this hile and push it in if tray starts to auto open it might be just a dry set of rails
if rails asumed dry open unit and coat the rails with anti seize and try again with the switch on front cover

Set your Television to the corresponding input line. If you have the DVD recorder connected to your television input 1 line. Set your television to input 1 line. The recorder is just waiting for your command to set your time and area ...etc.

Hdd error

try replacing the red sata cable which runs from the HDD under the DVD drive to the main board on the right-hand side. these are a common problem on these models, there cheap and unreliable. you can purchase a better quality cable from a computer store for little money. HDD ERROR is'nt necessery an HDD fault as i found out with my rdr-hx525. if however the HDD is faulty and you buy a replacement, once installed you will need to pair the new HDD with the unit by entering the service mode by unplugging the AC then while holding down open/close and play together then re-insert the AC lead while still holding open/close and play and wait until you see an "S" in the display then let go and the service mode will appear on the tv screen. go to no.9 HDD mode, press enter then go to no.3 Write ID then it will say "execute write ID?" yes and press enter and then it will say "writing HDD serial ID.... OK" once this is done, exit the service mode by keeping your finger on the power button for approx 10secs. your DVD recorder should now recognise the new HDD. if you don't follow this process, you will still have an HDD error message as your DVD recorder will have your old HDD installed and won't recognise your new one. given the amount of time since you posted this fault, you may still have the unit in question in which case i hope this solution is helpful, or for anyone else with the same problem.

Most likely one or more capacitors on the main board went bad. I just fixed one last night with the exact symptom.
