Port Fowarding Issue

I am trying to foward the ports of my Xbox 360 so my router allows Xbox Live. I get to the Advanced----> Virtual Server screen but I cannot find the "Private IP" I assume this is the IP that belongs to my xbox but I cannot find it anywhere. I was wondering if you could help me find it.

Re: Port Fowarding Issue

Hi Noshhit,

On your Xbox, go to the dashboard, move along to the 'system' tab (the furthest right tab), then go down to "Edit Settings" and you will see your IP info in basic settings. Your Ip is there.
Good Luck!

I know what you're going through as it is common on Belkin routers. There are actually some good solutions to this found on youtube for simple instruction to help demostrate but I'm gleaned you already have done some of the advanced steps. Here is my question did you ever set your xbox 360 with a static ip address and then add it to the firewall/virtual server settings. You put the static ip address in and the xbox 360 ports.

(Hopefully you are running Windows 7 for this advice. Let me know otherwise.)
1. You should be able to click Start, type "view network connections", hit enter. 2. Right-click your wireless connection and hit 'Properties'. 3. Click the sharing tab and then 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection'. 4. Click OK and try again.
You may need to also plug in your computers DNS settings into your XBOX (360?).
Repeat 1. 2. Right-click and hit 'Status', then 'Details'. 3. Notice the IPv4 DNS Server. 4. Go to your system / Network / Wired on the XBOX and try typing in your Laptops DNS numbers (ex. Unless they changed it on the new Blade system so that you HAVE to have and IP, subnet, and gateway, in which case, take note of those three numbers on your machine and plug those into the XBOX settings too (except if your computer shows, set your XBOX to something like, everything else the same).

I would like to configure port fowarding on the Cisco 857 router using the http interface rather than via any coding. Is it possible and what do I need to do? In my scenario, the router must be configured...

It is possible to configure your router via a web browser. Although it’s disabled by default, your router has its own mini HTTP server built in. This provides another way to gain access to the router for the purpose of issuing commands. To enable the HTTP server, you have to use the command "ip http server" from the global configuration mode.

cisco(config)#ip http server

Then open a web browser and point it to one of your router’s IP addresses. The interface is not really nice, but you can issue commands using hyperlinks.
For security reasons I still suggest that you keep the HTTP server turned off, since it offers just another point of access for potential hacking.

What is so bad about the command line? Configuring port forwarding is actually pretty easy, once you know the commands.

Type show ip interface to find the name of the interface you want to set port forwarding for.

The show ip nat translations command shows you the current port forwards on Router.

Type configure to enter the configuration mode
The command for port forwarding is: ip nat inside source static (TCPorUDP) (YourComputersIP) (PortToForward) interface (name)(PortToForward)

in you case:
ip nat inside source static tcp 5900 interface (name) 5900
ip nat inside source static tcp 5901 interface (name) 5901
replace (name) with the interface name you got from the first command.

Then press CTRL-Z to end the Configure Session
Type copy run start once you tested your settings and press ENTER for the question Destination filename [startup-config]?

I have heard of some commercial tools that let you configure your router via web interface, but they are very expensive (around 1400$).
You can try it out for 14 days. Go here.
If you want to play with a free one, go to Cisco (link) and check it out. (You have to be a member though.)

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

I can play online with with my xbox 360 with some friends but not others. I think it may be because of my nat.

Verify you have uPNP enabled on the router and that should do the trick.

Your router may not support it, so if not, you can setup a port fowarding rule for TCP port 3074 to forward to the IP address of your xbox 360

Change NAT to open

The ports should be opened only in the router not in the, go to a working pc..

To allow traffic from the internet to enter your local network, you will need to open up ports or the router will block the request.

Because our routers use NAT (Network Address Translation), you can only open a specific port or ports to one computer at a time. For example: If you have 2 web servers on your network, you cannot open port 80 to both computers. You will need to configure 1 of the web servers to use port 81. Now you can open port 80 to the first computer and then open port 81 to the other computer.

  • Step 1 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link router ( Enter username (admin) and your password (blank by default).

Step 2 Click on the Advanced tab at the top and then click Virtual Server on the left side.

Step 3 Check Enabled to activate entry.

Step 4 Enter a name for your virtual server entry.

Step 5 Next to Private IP, enter the IP address of the computer on your local network that you want to allow the incoming service to.
  • to check ip in your pc.. go to start menu click run.. type cmd and hit ok
  • in the black window enter ipconfig and hit enter, you will find the ip address

Step 6 Choose Protocol Type - either TCP, UDP, or both. If you are not sure, select both.

Step 7 Enter the port information next to Private Port and Public Port. The private and public ports are usually the same. The public port is the port seen from the WAN side, and the private port is the port being used by the application on the computer within your local network.

Step 8 Enter the Schedule information.

Step 9 Click Apply and then click Continue.
  • This would fix your problem..
