Question about Vacuums

New Eureka vacuum cleaner belt keeps slipping off

I need to replace the belt (part 61110a) on my Eureka 4870 series vacuum cleaner.  The new one is *very* tight when I install it and after a minute or two of vacuuming, it slips off.  I have replaced the belt twice, yet each belt slips off. Only the original very-worn belt seems to work.
I manually turned the roller and can see that the belt wants to wander off of the roller, but I cannot see any apparent reason why it does that.  Any suggestions as to what I might do to keep it on?
Thank you.

My problem is similar.....I don't lose the belt but it won't turn the roller when it is in the carpet mode, unless the handle is almost in the upright position. It looks like the idler or tensioning roller is not putting enough pressure on the belt to keep the rollers turning. Your belt may be jumping off the drive for the same reason. I'll take mine apart to see if I can find any excessively worn parts that would cause the belt to remain loose. I am sure that I can put a bushing (a piece of bicycle inner tube) over the roller and it will work - but that's a last resort - if I cannot properly identify and correct the problem

You may have a bad brush roll, part #61250-1, or the base itself has a problem and isn't letting the brush roll sit straight so it can be in alignment.

My Eureka The boss Smartvac Model #4870 roller brush won't turn even on the highest setting and the belt smells hot. we took the belt off. How can you tell if it needs replaced?

Just by what you explained I can tell that it needs to be replaced. The belt doesn't have to be broken to need replacing, if it is stretched and worn then it will slip on the motor shaft and not turn the brush roll and get hot. Here is a link to the belts you need and the manual which has instructions:

Brush roller spins until it touches the carpet, then stops.

That means that the belt is stretched or worn. Here is a link to the replacement belts you need and a manual which has instructions:

Eureka 4870 roller only spins in upright

if the belt has been slipping it may have pollished the moteror brush shaft and it just slips. take a small piece of sand paper or enery cloth and ruffen up the shaft to give it some grip.
if the metal shaft of the motor has been heated up due to slippage it will take some doing to ruffun it as the shaft will be hardend due to heat

Belt on motor roller

no only take the bottom off ,there will be three screws, take the belt put in over the shaft of the motor , loop it ,run it over the silver spindle to the brush assembly ,replace the brush in the slot that it came from, the belt now is over the motor shaft running over the spindle ,and over the brush assembly, replace the three screws and you should be good to go.

Euerka Smart Boss upright

Price of Belt: $ 7.49 from www3.sears.com
Part No. 61110A

Price of Bag: $7.99 for a pack of 3.
Part No. 61115A or Eureka Bag Type RR

Estimated Repair Cost: $75-90 pending parts and labor rates

The likely possibility is that the belt was installed wrong. Without seeing the unit myself, I cannot say if the pulleys are mis-aligned. I will get back to you if I find any new information.
