Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

No Connection My DWL-G120 has always worked fine. Suddenly it stopped allowing my pc to connect to the internet. I have Windows XP. The lights no longer come on, on my d-link. I have tried to use the d-link cd that came with it but it just let's me know it's already installed, and asks if I want to unistall. I also have a wireless Versatell Westlink, that didn't work with my pc originally, until I was told i need the D-link. My laptop connects wirelessly just fine.

Hi Norm,

First, try a different USB device in the USB Ports, to make sure they are not disabled.

Uninstall the DWL-G120 Drivers, in the add/remove programs. Unplug the device. Download and install this program.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

Click on Options, check each one. Click on all instance of the USB device you want to remove, (Marked Disconnected.), and under File, click on Uninstall Selected devices You can hold the CTRL key to select more than one.
Once they are all cleared, Open My Computer and go to C drive. Delete any folders left over from the DWL-G120.
Reboot, and reinstall the drivers, and plug in the device.
If that don't work, you can try a different USB port for it.
Good Luck!

    Hi Norman,

Can you download it on your laptop, and either put it on a Flashdrive, (Thumbdrive), or burn it to a cd. I suggest a thumbdrive, rather than wasting a CD. Then just move it over to the desktop.

One other thing we could check, Norma, as a test. Go to Start>Run and type in CMD. In the window that opens, type in IPCONFIG

This should list your IP Addess as 192.168.xxx.xxx, the "X's" can be anything from 1 -254. If you have a 102.168, chances are you are getting that IP from the router. Another question is, did you recently, just before you were disconnected, remove any spyware?

Let me know how that all works out. If you are getting the 102.168 ip, then maybe it is not the Router issus, but you have spyware. Not being able to access the cdrom is cuased by some viruses.

    Good luck,, again!

    Hi Norma,

Just saw a bug in my last response. It should read :

This should list your IP Addess as 192.168.xxx.xxx, the "X's" can be anything from 1 -254. If you have a 192.168, chances are you are getting that IP from the router. Another question is, did you recently, just before you were disconnected, remove any spyware?

    Not 102.168.xxx.xxx.

    Sorry!

Logitech M510 suddenly stopped working

What does the device manager say about the hardware?
It could be loss of the usb device controller. Windows XP is old and that is an indication that the hardware is old too.

I am using windows XP in my Toshiba laptop sattellie Series. I am unable to make any new connection to connect to Internet.

That is because the L300 does not support XP.
If you reinstall Vista, all will be well again.
XP is no longer supported even by Microsoft as it is over 10 years old and now obsolete.
Hope that helps.

Hi, My d-link dl-604 suddenly stopped working. When I plug it in, only the power led and #4 lights are up. None of the other leds are responding nor the internet is not working as well. Please help. Thanks

The following reset procedure will completely restore the default settings on your D-Linkmag-glass_10x10.gif device including your password. This procedure applies to the DI-514, DI-524, DI-604, DI-614+, DI-624, DI-754, DI-764, DI-774, DI-784, DI-804V, DWL-700AP, DWL-800AP+, DWL-900AP+, DWL-1000AP+, DWL-2000AP, DWL-2100AP, DWL-6000AP, DWL-7000AP, and DWL-7100AP.

Step 1 Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the unit.

Step 2 With the unit powered on, press and hold the Reset button.

Step 3 Hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds.

Step 4 Release the Reset button.

Step 5 The unit will reboot. Allow 20-30 seconds before reconnecting.

Step 6 The device is now at factory defaults.

Note: Do not recycle power during the reset procedure.

The default user name for most D-Link devices is admin and the password is left blank.

Hope this helps! Give me thumbs please!

I have a DWL G120 USB Adapter using Windows 2000. We just switched from WEB to WPA security (becasue of connectivity problems with a new IPad) and now have no connectivity with this router

Define "no connectivity".

Does the iPad now have Internet access?

If you use an Ethernet cable to connect from a LAN port on the router to the network port on any desktop/notebook computer, does that computer get Internet access?

If you take an iPod Touch, and click SETTINGS and then click WI-FI, and then you select the SSID of your network, does the iPod get Internet access?

Often this is a simple power management issue. On the laptop check the wireless properties and disable allow Windows to turn off this device to save power.
