Fridge motor on too much it seems

I have an ~10 yr old Kenmore refrigerator R134A Model # 25369842890. Lately the compressor motor seems to be on much too frequently. I've tried lowering the internal thermostat knobs to their lowest level ''cold'' in each case. However it seems to be the same.

I didn't describe the problem correctly. The thermostat knobs in freezer and fridge have two extemes "Coldest" to the left and "cold" to the right. So "cold" should be the "warmest" setting.

    Sorry for the confusion

Remember, the colder you make the thermostat, the longer the compressor will run to try and reach the required temperature. Question is," is the temperature in the fridge cold enough or not cold enough." If it is, then you will need to have the thermostat replaced.(there is no control). If not cold enough at any time, then there is an issue with the cooling circuit.(Will then need to have it checked by a technician.

Is there any difference between the plain auto R134a and R134a used in the 2000 year Kenmore refrigerator model 596.58642890? If it is different where can I buy a small can of appliance grade R134a ?

r134a gas is r134a gas and it is used in a variety of applications
because it is a extreme high pressure gas , it is unlikely that you will get a small can of it
It will be cheaper to have a fridge technician come and use the right amount as it normally comes in a 9 kg bottle and cost plenty
a fridge may use 100 grms if lucky

My compressor for my kenmore elite fridge SF43C72RAU6 R134a is making a knocking/pinging sound from within unit

If its the compressor, the compressor is bad and needs to be replaced, typically when they do that, they will short out, and trip the breaker.
It could be the condenser fan motor going bad too, knocking/pinging noise seems more suspect to a fan motor going out or a bent fan blade.

Recommend a appliance repairman to look at this

2 yeaor old kenmore fridge not working, motor runs

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

There is a line with with wrappin on back of ref that is frezzing over wht is wrong

Hi,

That is typically a sign of a problem with the heat exchange, specifically the suction line and capillary line have separated OR...the system has been worked on recently and been over-charged with refrigerant.

Answer me these questions...

Is it frosting up close to the compressor ? Where it comes out the back wall at the top back corner only ? Or the entire line all the way down to the compressor ?

Has this fridge had any system work performed on it recently or has anyone "topped it up" with refrigerant ?

What are the temperatures in the fridge ? Are you capable of gauging/measuring system pressures ?

Finally, how old is this fridge and do you know if it contains R12 or R134A ? ...if it`s old enough for R502, forget it ha ha !

I`ll watch for your reply.

My Kenmore fridge, Model 596-58692890 is not cooling and I've lost use of the water/ice dispenser. The motor and compressor seem to be working but the cool air is not blowing. What part might need to be...

HI,

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

thanks,

Motor stopped running days after move

Unfortunatly in most cases it is more expensive to fix than replace. A compressor change is at least 3 hours. The other cost include the compressor, drier, recovery machine, recovery cylinder, silver sodder, torch fees, and so on. The compressor will likely cost around $300. A used fridge in the paper can cost less then $200. Please let me know if you need anymore information.

Refrigerator knocking noise

the motor could be on the way out. Put your hand (carefully) on the motor (back of the refridgerator), if it is too hot to touch then the motor is burning out and will need to be replaced.

Kenmore Refrigerator making loud sounds at shutdown

the compressor has a loose or broken spring inside the compressor, unfortunatly it can not be repaired without replacing the compressor, it could last many more years and it could quit as we speak.

best thing is to let the neighbor know of the problem and what is the repair that way they won't think you are ponning off the machine to them, it may outlast your new one, time will tell
