My s73 lens is stuck out and will power on but it will not retract. It does move some when turned on or off but does not seem to focus. It has worked fine for all of 3 weeks. Removing the batteries did not work.

I have tried several different brand new sets of batteries but my camera still won't power on and the lense is stuck out. Sometimes the green power light will flash for a second or two but nothing happens.

I have the same problem and it has not been damaged. Any answers?

  • luckyone456 Nov 29, 2008

I have a samsung s73 I got as a gift. It has not sustained any damage. The lense is stuck out and will not go back in. When I turn it on it just beeps three times as it tries to pull the lens in then shuts off. This is the second one I had that crapped out so fast and had lense problems. Not worth fixing...guess I should buy a different brand!

If the lens is physically stuck, as in not moving in or out, this is a lens problem. Removing the batteries won't change it. Possible drop/impact damage, sand damage, did the camera get bumped or pressed on and try to turn on while in it's case?

Try to remove your batteries for a minute and then reattach them again.

Some stupid person has dropped and then kicked my brand new Samsung camera and now it won't turn on and the lens is stuck out :( When I try to turn it on it makes a weird beep and won't turn on and...

You should try to get that stupid person to buy you a new camera if the following doesn't help. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

Due to the tight tolerances inside the lense mechanism - small bits of sand or lint may become trapped in the mechanics.

It is advised to take the camera to a camera repair shop and have it disassembled and cleaned.

There are many small parts and intricacies that will render it totally useless if not done properly.

My camera wont turn on.

If the lens is stuck inside the camera and you hear a motor noise - changing batteries will not help. This has happened because the lens barrel is jammed inside the camera. Unfortunately, you will not be able to repair that issue. If the lens is stuck outside the camera, slightly tilted, and you hear a motor noise; you might be able to save camera. First, only use good batteries (stay away from alkaline batteries - waste of money), go with Energizer Lithium or Duracell Power Pix (you will get your moneys worth and have less problems with the camera). Second, very GENTLY, pull the lens barrel up and in the opposite direction of the tilt (to make the lens barrel straight), you will hear a slight click sound - DO NOT PUSH ON THE LENS BARREL!!!. Put in the new batteries and the lens should retract.

Try lithium ion or rechargable batteries (maH > 2500). Alkalines (regular duracell/energizer) have trouble powering many digital cameras since they cannot sustain the amount power output necessary.

Samsung S1065 does not turn on, beeps 3 times before powering off. Lens is extended, have checked batteries, not sure what else to do??

I had the same problem, firstly you will be able to press the button on the back to view your pictures, when you do and the camera powers up quickly press the menu button. Check that your battery settings are set to alkaline, then buy some good alkaline batteries and not cheap ones. Check that they are alkaline and not like what I did and bought panasonic zinc carbon.
This worked for me and mine would not turn on either until i changed the batteries to a good make.

Already frustrated wit samsung S73

Make sure you are using alkaline batteries.
I agree the battery use an ugly problem. Mine does the same. It's either a design flaw or really bad quality control.

Sam sung Camera won't turn on

Try to power reset your camera by removing the batteries for a minute and reattach them again.

Use lithium batteries.

If that doesnt work, consider sending your camera for service.

Won't turn on

I had something similar happen after five minutes. The included batteries are crap, try some rechargeables or brand new alkaline. Be warned this camera likes to eat alkalines but does well with nimh.
