Question about Canon PowerShot A95 Digital Camera
The sensor array has gone bad. It will bave to be sent back to Canon for service since that is a major repair. You should consider the A480 as a replacement camera. The A480 is a little over $100 and is going to be cheaper than repairing your A95, plus the A480 will have better resolution and picture quality. It will not use you adapter lenses, if you have any.

Testimonial: "many thanks for your reply the camara is about 4 years old but has only been used about 8 times taking 20 pictures the luck of the draw it seems thank"
The A95 is still a very nice feature-rich camera, even by today's standards, and worth getting fixed if possible. Agreed that this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. But if so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.
