Question about Microsoft Word 2000 for PC

1 Answer

Hi there, I have a word doc. on my mac that has a password on it. All of my docs have the same password but this doc will not open. Argh. I have tried every form of mis-spelling I can think of but to no avail (thinking that I must have mistyped the password when I set it). Can anyone help me open my doc? Thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for such a quick response. I tried with the CAPS lock on, it didn't work. I also tried it with every permutation of my password but to no avail. Someone on one of the MAC forums had the same problem and they suggested opening the document and then choosing "save as" and saving the file as an .rtf file, but when I tried that, all of my menu options were grayed out and I could not. This is driving me crazy :)
    Thanks,
    Rose

    Hi there,
Thanks for your suggestion, the Word 2007 Password Recovery program only works on a PC and I have a MAC. I tried everything to open their .exe. file type but my system profiler would not process it.

Try with caps lock on. Maybe possible that when you have entered the password your CAPS lock is on.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

I think there are 6 ways (at least?) to connect this printer:
(1) Direct to Mac (or PC) via USB Cable (2) Direct to Mac (or PC) via Ethernet Crossover Cable(3) Ethernet to router/switch, with Mac/PC also via Ethernet to router/switch(4) Ethernet to router/switch, with Mac/PC via WiFi (802.11 wireless)(5) WiFi to router, with Mac/PC via Ethernet to router/switch(6) WiFi to router, with Mac/PC also via WiFi.
As (1) should be simplest, tried this first. First document would print instantly and completely, next doc would hang in queue with unexpected msg, "Printer is offline." Only way to print 2nd doc was to power cycle (off-on) the printer. This problem occurred whether 2nd doc was sent to printer before or after 1st doc had printed. Tried 2nd USB cable, tried new driver, tried reinstalling printer; same problem. Spoke to both Samsung and Apple support, including both on a conference call; never got this to work and never clarified if problem was in printer hardware/software, driver, or something else. Both companies now showing this issue as unresolved.
Nothwithstanding USB problem, did succeed in modes (4) and (6), although custom wireless config needed since my network does not broadcast SSID and requires an encryption password. Procedure required connecting first via Ethernet, obtaining Configuration Report by holding down orange button for 5 seconds, then using browser to connect to the printer's IP address. Also required different driver for wireless config (as opposed to USB).
Bottom line: What seemed simple - USB direct connect - proved unworkable, but wired and wireless network config works fine.

I can't open the the .doc files after mofifying them using office word on my Macbook

double check the extension to the document.
Is it titled "document.doc" or "document.pages" or "document.pdf"?
Select the document and right click until it says "open with". Then select either Microsoft Word, Pages, or appropriate application to open it.

I was given a power book G4 mac but the administrator's profile is password protector (he's died so no chance of getting the password). Have got the OS X installation disks but a window opens saying the...

Apple has a guide on resetting the administrator password here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=mac/10.4/en/mh655.html This one is for OS X 10.4 (Tiger) but the method is the same for newer versions. In older versions the only difference is that the reset password option mentioned in step 3 is located in the installer menu instead of the utilities menu.

I can't seem to open attachments on my mac, it looks like something is happening and then I can't find the file to print it...I am a new user and confused

If they are pdf attachments, then you have to download the free adobe reader or update your adobe version.  If they are word docs, then you should have a word comparable software to open it up.
Change your settings to download the document on your desktop instead of in a folder so that you can always find the doc to print.  Then you can drag the doc off the desktop and into what ever folder you like.  Also, just type the name of the doc in the search window and all the docs with that name will show up.

How do I open a Word 97 format (doc) on my Mac?

Haven't used Mac in a while but I believe you have to
1) Save the attachments to your hard drive or desktop.
2) Start the TextEdit or AppleWorks application
3) (If Appleworks) Start the Word Processor app
4) Try "File-Open" and locate the file(s) you wish to open

And I/O error occurred when trying to open an Appleworks doc

That message in Pages means the file is not an AppleWorks 6 file, possibly AppleWorks 5. Are you using the same version? Not all are backward compatible, or require you to have the compatibility pack installed.
