Question about Cameras

1 Answer

My cannon mvx200i won't accept the tapes any more. There is a red symbol of a tape flashing on the screen. it was working fine, everything else seemed to be working fine, I took one tape out and from there it wouldn't accept the tapes. What is the problem?

Hi,
First off how long have you owned the camera? I would suggest you contact canon and have the camera serviced. There is most likely a broken/defective part in the camera. Follow this link to find the nearest service center. I am assuming you are located in europe.

Thank you,

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Red light blinking won't accept tape

If a tape "hung" up and it won't accept one you have a loading issue.

The unit may use a belt to drive the tray or a geared mechanism.

In any case someone needs to open the unit up to "see" what is happening. Most of these a tape can be inserted with power off and manually cycled into the unit to see the issue---we usually use a old cassette with the tape inside removed to avoid issues.

If you cannot do that consider looking for a shop who will (some no longer work on this type of equipment.)

That is the pinch roller. If it does not press the tape against the capstan, then the tape will not pass the read/write heads. Replace it.

Tape cannot be removed

However, any cameras in which you can insert a video tape (camcorders,...) will NOT work with coriander. These cameras record compressed DV video on the tape, while the IIDC specify uncompressed, on-the-fly video flows. If you wish to use a camcorder you should have a look at Kino instead.

Flashing red symbol like a bowl crossed out

it means you have no back up battery installed to save time/date info. I know on the GL2 if you open the LCD screen there is another small plastic tab you can open and insert a relatively small battery. Do it and the icon will disappear. Otherwise its no big deal. If you dont need time/date stamps on your tapes then there is no need to install the battery unless you are just annoyed.

most likely problem is a defective cassette housing. I've replaced about a dozen of these in AG-DV2500s.

Hi, When you say you're "using a tape for a while", can you define "while"? The thing about these little cameras is that they don't like to re-use DV tapes. If you are recording over tapes that have previously been recorded on, then your camera could be fussy about that. You can clean the heads, but if the tape is dirty, then it will transfer that dirt back to the heads and youp;ll end up in the same position. The problem is, that the heads will wear out if you clean them to often. In the long run, it's best to use new, clean tapes. And when you are using the tape cleaner, make sure you are following the directions very carefully. NewMediaMan
