I'm assuming that you mispelled and set should be jet. I'm also assuming that you're at a higher altitude. That could mean changing jet would improve performance. Changing your original propeller which was designed for sea level could also help. I know that my 115 horse Merc could only get up to 4200 rpm with the factory prop that was 17 degree prop. I changed to a 15 degree and got to 5200 rpm and a 13 degree got me to 6000 rpm. It's a little expensive but to get to optimal performance for your motor you'll probably need to change jets and prop.

Bought a 40hp two stroke had new inpeller only pumps now an then

Replace the impeller again. The impeller is spun (rubber from brass sleeve) or key is sheared or missing or it was installed in the wrong rotation of the motor and fins are damaged. The housing (stainless dish) is damaged or alignment tube is off.

Free download for repair manual for an Evinrude 1987 40HP outboard motor

My outboard motor is old and used. When I went to run it for the first time everything worked except when I went to put it in forward gear the boat went slowly but when I gave it more gas the engine just reved up but the boat wasn't going any faster. The motor is 40hp gale model.I think because it is bought used the prop is not the right one and it seems like it's slipping as I go faster.
I would appreciate any feedback on this problem.

Re-assembling lower unit of 40HP Mercury 4 stroke

I found a lower gear case assembly diagram at http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury_parts/6995/240.cfm which helped me understand how the shift mechanism works. This clued me in to the fact that I was missing the cam follower rod which I then found I had inadvertently mopped up in a shop towel when cleaning up spilled gear oil. After that discovery, assembly and operation was quick and successful.

Water flow

2 Stroke engines have a very active thermostat. When you run the RPM's up then it should **** water from the hole. When the engine is running you should be able to touch the cylinder head with your hand. If it is to hot for you to touch then it is getting too hot. If you have a digital thermometer and test the cylinder head then you should see it run between 75 and 130 degrees. If it runs higher than 150 degrees then there is a definate problem with the engine.

2005 50 Hp Mecury 2 stroke out board motor issue

Does the boat get used regulary?(I,am sure that,s spelt wrong)Put a length of line trimmer cord up the hole whilst it is running.Sometimes a small piece of 'junk' slows the flow.If the water flowing out is not hot but still warm it is a good indication that there is no overheating. The flow should still be good.Even if the dealer says otherwise.Thats why all makers put the things there.Have a look where the hose goes with the engine cowl off.I have seen one with a kink in the hose.Hope this helps.
