Question about Aiwa CDC-Z117 CD Player

Aiwa CDC Z117 volume dilemma

Hi, and happy new year to you.
I bought a used car last week that has the AIWA CDC-Z117 in dash. (The car was a total steal so I didn't bother to check music.) I figured out how to turn it on but the volume is at maximum and I can't find a way to adjust it aside from shutting the thing off. What looks like the volume control wheel does nothing but spin round and round. No clicking or resistance in it. I just downloaded the manual for this so I can see what's what, but am wondering if the volume's busted. Any ideas? I'll touch base w/former owner later this week. Figured I'd ask while I found this great site. Thanks!

Thanks for your help, Pierre. I'll share your advice with my boyfriend, who's much better at taking things apart and tinkering with them than I am. Hopefully this will do the trick. Cheers!

My daughter had same issue with her Aiwa car radio. removing and replacing the radio power fuse made it happy and it has been so for nearly a year.

Aiwa cdc-r237 switch off demo mode and AIWA message

1. Press and hold the SRC button until "ILL" appears on the display.
2. Press either the up or down switch until "DE" appears on the display.
3. Rotate the volume control until "DE 0" appears on the display. Don't touch the stereo for several seconds after that, so that it accepts the command and goes back to its normal display!

Wiring problems

Hi,

Most of current AIWA in-dash units are ISO/DIN compliant and therefore conform to the ISO Wire Color Code standard. If your model is ISO certified then it would be following the below illustrated wiring scheme.
4050e73.jpg
You can verify its adherence to the standards by checking that the "Earth" wire reads 0 ohms using a continuity tester as against the ground/body of the stereo unit. Incidentally most current car models also follow the same standard with the exception of later VW / Audi vehicles and therefore would be simply be plug in.

If you suspect any deviation, perhaps you are better off purchasing an original Aiwa two, eight way plugs for your CDC-MP32 CD Player.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
