    THANKS FOR THIS REPLY.
YES IT'S BEEN TRIED ON ANOTHER COMPUTER AND SAME DEAL. NO RECOGNITION AT ALL. I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE JUST BEEN A TRICK OR A RE-SET TO FIX IT. ANY OTHER IDEAS??

Have you tried it on another computer to see if it is recognized? I doubt it is because it's full.. You usually will get that error when you are trying to copy files onto the drive.

It is possible to recover the information on a external hard drive, , If the hd is not dead.

Take it to a reputable computer store and see they do a back up or recovery. They would be able to see if they can recover it. There will be fee, but it depends on you, how important your information is.
Good Luck.

Cant get my sumsung S2 external hard drive to work..my computer does not recognise it

If you are trying to use it on a computer with Windows XP or later installed it and it isn't automatically installing the drivers and finding the drive for you then there are typically only 2 possibilities of what's wrong.

1. Your external drive is probably Dead.

2. The USB port you are using is dead. Try plugging it in to a different USB port.

Before you write the drive off as DEAD, make sure you try plugging it in to a different computer and see if it works on the that computer.

Please say someone has a solution for me, very worried i've most my life's collection of music and movies =[

Try the WD USB hard drive in another computer. If you can access your data on another computer then backup your data.
If the WD USB hard drive is faulty then -
It is not possible to recover data from faulty hard drivesby mortals such as you and I.
There are companies that can recover data from faulty and damaged hard drivesBUT they wll charge an arm and a leg for their services.

When i turn my acer aspire one d255 netbook on it says no bootable device -- please restart system i need help please

Hi
It looks as though the laptop is not recognising the hard drive, there is no hard drive fitted or there is a hard drive but the OS boot record has been wiped ( I know this sounds obvious but some people buy these 2nd hand only to find the hard drive was removed)

You need to check the hard drive is present by booting to the bios screen it should "see" the hard drive attached. If it is present, then you have a problem with the OS or a damaged hard drive. I think its DEL or F2 or F10 to access the bios, not certain.

At this point, you need to attempt to reinstall the OS, as this does not have an optical drive, you will need to obtain a USB Optical drive, go into the bios and see that it is recognised as a boot device. Do not worry about setting the boot order, the Bios will locate the rom as a boot device.

Attempt a start up repair, ie: wait until the installer looks for a previous installation of windows (if one exists) then allow it to install a repair installation. If it does NOT find this, you will need to doa full install. If at this point you have files you need recovering, a strip down of the netbook and removal of the hard drive will be necessary. You simply then get someone with a computer to jumper your hard drive as a slave and recover the files you need, as a full install requires the hard drive to be fully wiped.

Replace the hard drive after you have done this and proceed with the full reinstall

You can use a USB boot device, but to do this you will need to have access to another computer to make the boot installer:

Blank external hard drive

The trouble with external drives is sometimes in the interface board in the enclosure, and not with the drive. It's possible to open the case (not always easy, but possible!) and remove the drive, then connect it into another computer as an additional drive. If the drive itself is okay, you would be able to recover your data.

Computer not recognising my external hard drive????

Hello

My apologies if this message finds you long after posting this problem , but I am currently working through a backlog of problems that never got answered and hopefully this info can still be of use if not now possibly in future.

Please download Disc Digger HERE. This is a free tool you can use that works very well and there is no installation required, just run the program once you downloaded it.

Once you have connected the memory disk / hdd to the computer , run the program.

On the program , select the dig deep option for accidentally deleted files or dig deeper for a formatted drive. Then select the disk you want to do the recovery on and run the program.

The data will be displayed and you can recover it from there. This will only work if the card has not been used since the data was lost. Save the files to a location on the computer hard drive and not back to the disk it is recovering from as this will overwrite the other pictures that still needs to be recovered.

Some of the properties of the files may become lost in the recovery but the pictures should be fine.

You will also only be able to recover certain file types using this method.

Feel free to ask if you need more assistance.

Kind Regards
Andrea

Harddrive does not start up...computer recognises

Try Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management.

Check there to see if the drive is listed, "online" and has a "Healthy" Partition.
