First go to and type in your model number and download a breakdown for the tool. The collet body and nut have to come off before the armature can be removed. After viewing the breakdown you will see that it is not really that hard. let me know if you need more assistance.

Makita bhp454 overheated, not turning clockwise.

It is very common for the armature to overheat and melt down.

Open it up and inspect the armature, it will be very obvious it is burnt.
If it is the case, replace the brushes (#16) and the armature(#14)

Makita buffer clicking, sparking and burn smell, power loss upon immediate use

it is a armature problem common to makita products
replacing one armature with a new one does not solve the problem as the fault is a design fault
probably armature not wired heavy enough for continuous running
consider replacing it with a better brand that enables continuous operation

Does anyone have advice on what to check next if you've changed the brushes on a BHR202 and it still doesn't work?

Is there a Deep discharge protection connector on your powertool ????

The thirth small contact in the battery connector or only 2 contacts ?

If not then its an advise it must be modificated then you have only to break off a notch on the new modificated battery holder connector so it can be placed in the older not marketing technical modificated housing, and you have to change the switch and the battery connector , the differences are 091A. 643844-1 old batteryconnector (2 contacts) change into 091B. 644808-8
New modified batteryconnector (3 contacts with deep discharge protection it has a limit until a level)
088A. 650578-9 Switch old model (2 contacts) replace for a
088B. 638882-6 New modified switch (3 contacts )

What you need is even expensive by this model if you have a modified type with the 3 contacts to know what can be wrong else is remove the brushes charge you battery and measure it first if its full and take a multimeter measure tool between both brushholder measure and pull the trigger that must between give 16and 20 volt DC if the battery was good charged . next measure is ohms resist measure both brushes in the brushholders and measure for a few ohms from brushcontact to brushcontact throught the armature inside the machine.
if not a resistance to get measure through the armature without brushes if some object or parts was comming trough the ventilation of the machine between armature and brusholder then the brush beet not the collector anymore different things to look at .
26116694-xaq5q3decq2piqybkt2ddcrv-2-0.jpg Look also how the kind of wiring technik of the armature is different left is a old kind of armature that will last for 5 years or more its having thicker wiring and an other winding pattern instead of the modern kind of armatures from the last years from 2009 and later Johnson armatures by PANASONIC MILWAUKEE, MAKITA , this new armature has a lot of more power but its faster defect because of the to tight tolerance of heat dissipation and ventilation but thats most in time of inbetween 2 or 3 years worn by the great strength and light machine makes this rapidly abuse when it is going to slowly get gives a shrill sound then i know there is also not much power on , batteries are fast empty and no power left ( AND THE PROBLEM IS PEOPLE THINK THE BATTERIES ARE GETTING OLD no thats not the problem but the armature is it and as before its eating carbon brushes in between 1 month again so fast if its worked in daily use. ALWAYS REPLACE BRUSHES AND ARMATURE (thermical shortings not to see but to hear and measure) at the same time it isnt not so expensive as that you choose new batteries and the batteries work great on a other tool . if the machine has eating the brushes with the old armature left on picture nothing was happens and it last again in good condition but the power difference is great between the old and the new armatures of the brand Milwaukee 18V to compare this old was Milwaukee 18volt and right the same kind of new sensitive armature like Panasonic or Makita have used in their tools.

Could you please help me repair my Makita angle grinder?

The problem will be removing the inner bearing ring from the armature. You will need to source a suitable bearing puller from a hire shop or possibly get one made.
It will look like a tube with a slot in the side.
The bottom will have a plate welded on it, also with a slot.
The slots allow the puller to pass over the armature enabling the puller to centralise over the shaft,
The top of the puller will have a plate welded on with a hole through the centre. On this plate is welded a nut.
A bolt will pass through the nut and contact the armature shaft.
with the puller centrally located over the armature and the bottom plate in contact with the bearing the bolt is tightened to pull the bearing up.
I have made a puller similar to this from an old spark plug socket (good quality from as socket set) but it may not be long enough for your application.

Drill is not working

first measure of the batterie if its loaden ,only if the brushes are to short replace also anyway the armature and brushes BOTH . it is not good to switch only the carbonbrushes because of a marketing technical design concept because of the heat dissipation that playing tricks insite the armature and it is cheap made by Johnson
sometimes the half value compared to other brandnames.

Armatures are new designed in a short time

23465970-2oroqqetjko0hjqmfukebeah-4-0.jpgleft the armature of the old but same cdd 18 milwaukee no problems you can change only the brushes and its working again right the same modificated armature marketing technical a new design of this JOHNSON Armature (Johnson is also used in Panasonic powertools bv EY7441 ) it has much more force in the same armature but the heat dissipation plays tricks and if the brushes are to short replace anytime BOTH (the brushes and the armature look at the difference of the turns of the coil front right look the later design more and thiny wire on it more power force but a bad heat dissipation in about 2 or 3 years the brushes are on its end take by heavy work a more powerful tool its better longlasting then this machines Makita has oft a better armature but there are also posibillities in some tools.

My makita 3612c router sounds bad and don't function well ,as can be heard in the video, I can see sparks coming from the brushes!!! Any idea about how to fix? What is the cause of such a problem

You probably have no brushes left running on the armature hence the big sparks and noise. The armature will be beyond repair Take to an appliance repair shop but I fear that it will be cheaper to junk it and get a new one.. My experience with Makita is that the brand is selective in the quality.

Brushes arcing

Brushes arc for several reasons. If the spring over heated and lost its tension or the copper line from the brush to the cap broke/burnt off or the brush wore down too far to be pressed on the armature properly. The replacement brushes you need are Makita part number CB-124. If you still have exessive sparking after replacing the brushes you may have a bad commutator on the armature. The only way to fix that is to replace the armature, Makita part number 512831-0.

I have a makita 18v impact driver that is 4 months old. I dropped it off of a 6 foot ladder today, and it stopped working. The light turns on when i pull the trigger, but a foul smell of burnt plastic

You may have damaged the brush holder, broken some tabs off that hold the field in place or knocked the armature out of alignment. All of these parts work under very close tolerances and if out of alignment will lock the motor up. If you pull the trigger the light will be able to work but since the armature can't turn, heat will build up in the motor very fast and you'll get the burning smell. You may get away with replacing the brush holder or housing but if the burning smell is actually coming from the armature, you'll have to replace that.

I have a makita rd1101 2.25 hp router it has adjustable speed. the router has been used maybe several times. Just recently while using it the speed will drop down for a few seconds and then rev back up...

Vince, it sounds like you will have to replace your variable speed module. It is item number (5) in the breakdown and runs about 80.00.
The part number is 631397-2.
Click on the Parts Beakdown Icon on the left hand side of the page. I hope this helps, let me know if there is anything else you need.

Rf1101 makita router lost serious power and is sounding wounded

You dont have to take the armature out to look at the commutator, just remove the brushes (unplug tool first) and get a flashlight and look into the brush tube and slowly turn the shaft by hand and look for a discoloration or unusual look on the comm bars. The slight burned smell might have come from the speed control or the switch itself, but look at comm and then go from there. You can get a breakdown for this tool at Let me know if you need any more help
