Question about Pentax Optio 230 Digital Camera

Is there a driver for Optio 230 camera to hook up to Windows 7?

I'm also having this problem. Problems with the solutions suggested are: The Pentax 230 uses a weird Compact Flash card that's fallen out of common use. Most computers don't have a reader for it. Pentax has not published a driver compatible with Windows 7, so new drivers don't work ,and there is no "compatibility issue" with the driver installer because it's nothing more than an auto-unzipper that puts a folder containing the Windows XP driver on the C drive that Windows will not recognize when instructed to use the driver in that folder. Does anyone know how to convince your computer that it's just a USB Mass Storage Device?

Okay, in my comment I reported that I had this problem. Now I have discovered a solution. A little deception is in order!

The way to get this piece of legacy hardware working on modern PC's is to convince the PC that your camera is something with which it can communicate. After plugging in your Pentax 230, open your Control Panel and type "Device Manager" into the search box. (There are other ways to access the Device Manager, but this seems to be the easiest to describe here.) With the search complete, click "Device manager" (You'll probably see a few instances of Device Manager, any of them will work.)

In the device tree, the Pentax should stick out like a sore thumb with a little yellow exclamation point tag thingy on it. Double click the Pentax in the list and you should see a dialog box that says something to the effect of, "The drivers for this device are not installed." Click the button "Update Driver."

In the wizard that pops up click: Browse my computer... -> Let me pick from a list... -> Universal Serial Bus Controllers (in the list) -> Next (button) -> Manufacturer: SanDisk Corporation -> Model: SanDisk USB ImageMate Multimedia Card Reader -> Next (button).

The computer's nit-nanny utility will pop up to warn you that this can do bad things, and it may be right, but I experienced no problems when I tried this on two computers (Side note: DO NOT tell the computer this is a disk drive, bad things do happen then!). Click "Yes" that you do want to continue installing this driver.

The computer will begin to churn and will install the driver for the SanDisk Multimedia Card Reader, and your camera should appear as a removable storage device in the "Computer" window.

You're welcome.

Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Not compatible or not working well with windows 7?
(making a program work with windows 7)

Maybe, It doesn't work because the driver/application you installed is for other versions of operating system. I am also using windows 7 like you so don't you worry, You can still use your old installer/driver from other versions of operating systems. Just remember that before installing any program in a windows 7 Operating System Computer, Use "troubleshoot compatibility". Right Click the Icon of your program installer/application first, then choose "troubleshoot compatibility". This will allow you to choose on what type operating system your program will run. Just reply back if it still doesn't work.:D rate and vote for me:)) julyallan01_52.jpg

Unable to down loan phots from pantax 230 to Windows 7

The easiest way is to use a separate card reader. It will open in "my computer" as a removable drive. Double-click on it to open the files. You can then drag and drop them into a folder you create on your desktop or into anywhere you choose. When you're finished, use the "safely remove hardware" function to remove the card reader.

I did a little research on your situation, and the only operating systems that support your camera's drivers are Windows XP, Mac, and windows 2000. I mean, you can try to see if it will work, but im just transmitting infromation.
