I want to reverse the swing on my dryer. It looks straight forward enough except that the manufacturer says I need to buy a left door hinge. No dealers near me, shipping costs blah, blah, blah. Do I really need to order a part or just flip the one I have over? Part Number 499011?
What are the siza of the star shaped screw heads? Trick to popping off the plastic protectors?
Hello Teambrant, the screws are a T-20 torx for the door and T-25 for the hinge. You can use the T-20 for both if you need to. Open the door all the way, remove the screws, then as you close the door it will come off. This kit will have all the parts needed for the kit. You will have to have the kit to reverse this door. The plastic retainers slide down, I use a pop sickle stick to push them down.

Duet dryer doors cannot be reversed for the swing. They wil only open one way. Depending on your model of washer the newers ones will allow you to reverse the door swing without a kit. The older units require a kit to reverse the washer door.
REVERSING DOOR SWING
Your
dryer is designed so the door swing may be reversed at any time without
additional parts. Conversion is accomplished by transferring hinges to
the opposite side of the cabinet.
To change the direction of the door opening:
1.
Open the dryer door. Remove the four hinge hole plugs from the left
side of the door opening. Place nearby for future installation. NOTE: You may need a plastic knife to help pull out the plugs. Be careful not to scratch the paint.
2. Remove the four screws that secure the door hinges to the dryer front panel (see below). NOTE: Remove one screw from each of the two hinges first. Hold the door firmly before removing the last two screws.
3. Rotate the door 180° and reinstall the door hinges to the dryer front panel with the four screws.
4. Install the four hinge hole plugs in the open screw holes on the right side of the door opening.
Unfortunately, these doors aren't manufactured to be reversible. The matching dryers for these washers, however, are able to be swapped from side to side. What I can suggest is swap the actual positions of the washer and dryer. This is of course possible if you have long enough water hoses, power cords, dryer vent, and the drain line will reach.
Place putty knife in the seam between the top and front panel about 2” in from either side. Push in on clip while pulling control panel forward and tilting putty knife handle up, all at the same time. Same on opposite side. Raise top all the way.
Looking down inside dryer on left and right see a screw about 6 inches down. Remove each side while holding front panel in place. Pull top of front panel about 3 inches forward from sides and then pull up. This will disengage the front panel from lower pressure clips and allow you to turn it sideways and expose the dryer interior.
The heater is located behind the drum on the back wall. Disconnect the belt through the small opening at the rear of the dryer. Take careful note of belt configuration BEFORE removing it. Draw a diagram of its travel.
Lift drum about 1 inch straight up at rear...then pull whole drum forward while keeping lifted. This should expose the heater for checking.
On these model you can only reverse the door swing on the dryer but not the washer. Alternatively, you can switch places with the washer and dryer provided the washer fill and drain hoses are long enough and there is enough room without obstructing the dryer exhaust vent .
If you want to know how to reverse the door swing on the dryer, post your model number and I will try to assist you further. Good luck!
Hi
just reversed the doors in 15-20 mins. It worked for me. You do need to be a competent DIYer to do this.
If in doubt, do now't. Get in an engineer
Disconnect from mains (obviously)
Remove top using 7mm nut driver/spanner
Remove 2 cross-head screws holding the door - Door will come away from dryer.
Remove 2 cross-head screws holding the white top and bottom blanking plates
pull out the switch blanking plate
Locate the PINK wires connecting the switch/latch mechanism inside the dryer at the top. This will be taped to a blue wire.
Unscrew the 2 smaller cross-head screws holding the latch/switch assembly whilst holding the pink wire to stop the mechanism dropping inside the dryer.
Pull up the latch mechanism and unravel the black tape holding it to the blue wire.
Drop the latch assembly down the lefthand side of the dryer and refit using the 2 small cross-head screws.
Retape to the blue wier and feed the PINK wires through the plastic retainers.
Fit the white blanking plates to the RIGHT handside of the door opening.
Swap the hinges and the switch latch on the door (don't lose the spring !!!, refitting the hinge blanking plates(ease these out with a small flathead screwdriver covered witha bit of insulating tape to avoid damage.)
Fit the door using the 2 cross-head screws you have left
Refit the top.
Connect to the mains and switch on to the sound of £80 you have just saved yourself !!
