Question about Brio Toys

2 Answers

Hi: I am using BRIO Hyperion 8.3 and trying to revamp an old BRIO GUI/dashboarding *.BQY with a newly revised data file with updated data. I prepared the new *.csv data file and import it in the old GUI BRIO. The good news is that the old dashboarding accepts the new file's data. However . . . when I saved the old GUI-ized BRIO and try to reopen it after saving . . . I get the following error message: "The following section is damaged and cannot be read. It will be removed from the document." The new file totally disappeared. Interestingly, when you right-click the old "master file" ... it shows "Delete Section," "Rename Section," and "Duplicate Section" in the drop-down menu. But, when I right click the newly imported refreshed "master file" . . . it only shows "Delete Section" and "Rename Section." I tried adding a new table below the new master file to copy over the columns . . . and, do actually get a table that has all 3 (Delete, Rename & Duplicate) . . . but, if I save with all 3 tables showing (original master, new master and its associated copied table) . . . then, get out of the program and try to reopen it . . . I get the above mentioned error message about a "corrupted file" with only the original master table showing. However, if I re-import the new master file back into the newly saved GUI BRIO . . . its copied table magically reappears. Are there any ways to work around this "corrpution" problem?

Thanks for your suggestion. I did go back into my imported *.csv file and look for any variables that had entries with quotes *(i.e. " " ) around them . . . and, did find my company name variable had a number of entries with quotes around them. I solved this problem last Friday by re-outputting the *.csv file in SAS and added some SAS code that stripped out all the quotes an eliminated the quotes. However, when I tried to re-import the corrected *.csv file into BRIO along side of the old "Master" original file (which I hoped to change the new imported file's name to become the new "Master" . . . the new file still did not save and gave me the same error message of "The following section is damaged and cannot be read." Still, it only showed "Delete Section" and "Rename Section" with a right-click. So . . good thought and suggestion . . . but, no dice. I'm back to square 1.

    Jack:

I pulled the *.csv file into Excel and looked at the entries under each column . . . and, everything lines up perfectly. I don't see any data that is not aligned . . . so, that is evidently not the problem either.

Using Excel . . . I decided to run a test by uploading a freshly created and frehly saved *.txt, *.csv and *.xls files into BRIO . . . with 4 variables (i.e., VarA, VarB, VarC & VarD) with 3 rows and just keypunched in 1,2,3,4 going across from left-to-right to give VarA, VarB, VarC and VarD some data in the fields. Then, I tried uploading each separately into BRIO. All 3 versions (csv, txt and xls) only showed the two sections of "Delete Section" and "Rename Section" when I right-clicked on the imported file. So . . . maybe the "corrupted file that cannot be read" error message has nothing to do with whether 2 or 3 sections pop up when one does a right-click.

I appreciate your assessment of my situation. I think you are correct in that it will take a number of calls to Hyperion BRIO/HP tech support to finally resolve this problem.

This is a far too advanced question to explain here. Many factors in your database will make a difference on whether what you want to do is possible or not.

You are going to need to call BRIO / Hyperion / Oracle (all now just Oracle) at 1-800-633-0925

Get it in there any way you can and then see if you have the option to repair the master table. Then save it out and see if the problem doesn't go away. If that doesn't work, look in your csv file. If it is comma delimited with quotes - make sure you don't have any entries with quotes in them, this botches the import process. Similarly, if you have no quotes, make sure that non of your entries have commas. I had a similar issue with an inventory system where the inventory item was a CD titled something like "Guy's "Spiderman""

Ok, well have you tried to open the CSV in Excel to make sure that the column headings and correlating data line up? The nice thing about Excel is that it will import regardless, but if the data is loosing it's format somehow it will show some kind of shift in the data or drop a subset of your data all together. Another suggestion is to check your carriage returns...Windows uses /r whereas Linux and many appliances use /r/n. Just a thought.

Ok, so you know it is something in that particular file right? ...and the file won't import but the other files will. So have you tried taking a subset of the file your trying to import, actually opening the file in notepad, word-pad, etc. and manually taking only the first...say...255 entries. This could tell you a couple things.

    1) If there is a particular part of the file that is causing the problem or if it is the entire file
    2) Could indicate that you have some sort of cap on the size of the data imported

How do I set security on my DWL-952

There are 2 possible areas raised by this question. The first is a security patch needed to fix the firmware of your router, which by the way is not dwl-952. Your router is a di 954. Dwl 952 is a bundled router and network interface. The details of the firmware update are below.

Security patch for your D-Link router
These firmware updates address the security vulnerabilities in affected D-Link routers. D-Link will update this continually and we strongly recommend all users to install the relevant updates.
As there are different hardware revisions on our products, please check this on your device before downloading the correct corresponding firmware update. The hardware revision information can usually be found on the product label on the underside of the product next to the serial number. Alternatively, they can also be found on the device web configuration.
Please make sure you follow the firmware install guide provided within the ZIP firmware package.
DI-524 Revision E1/E3Thu, 28/11/13
The new firmware 5.13b01 that fixes the security vulnerabilities
DI-524 Revision Ex 5.13b01
Please note: please unzip the file and use the file DI524Ex_FW513B01.bin to update firmware.
DI-524UP Revision A1/A2Thu, 28/11/13
The new firmware 1.08b02 that fixes the security vulnerabilities
DI-524UP Revision Ax 1.08b02
Please note: please unzip the file and use the file DI524UPAx_FW108B02.bix to update firmware.

The second possibility is to set the local security on your network.

From the wikipedia page:
Wireless security is the prevention of unauthorized access or damage to computers using wireless networks. The most common types of wireless security are Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA). WEP is a notoriously weak security standard. The password it uses can often be cracked in a few minutes with a basic laptop computer and widely available software tools. WEP is an old IEEE 802.11 standard from 1999 which was outdated in 2003 by WPA or Wi-Fi Protected Access. WPA was a quick alternative to improve security over WEP. The current standard is WPA2; some hardware cannot support WPA2 without firmware upgrade or replacement. WPA2 uses an encryption device which encrypts the network with a 256 bit key; the longer key length improves security over WEP.
The complete article is here

Wireless security

Log in to your router and find the wireless security section. Set up the security model that best suits your needs and then set up your wireless network card with the same information.

Lost all memory on hard drive

Once it's gone, it's gone.
You can try loading the firmware update from Philips website, but this is unlikely to resolve.

Philips HDD – Reloading the Firmware Hack

1. Plug your GoGear HDD into the computer
2. From ‘My Computer’ right click the GoGear drive and format it. Be SURE you format it as FAT32 and quick compression is not on
3. Create 3 folders on the newly formatted disk called: ‘_System’ , ‘Data’ , ‘Media’
3. Download fom Philips the latest Device Manager for your kind of player
4. Install the Device Manager
5. On the Desktop, right click the Philips Device Manager shortcut, then Properties, then open file location.
6. Copy the folders you see there into the ‘Data’ folder
7. Copy the Firmware.ebn file into the ‘_System’ folder
8. Unplug the device and now it should run fine
