I went into the lexmark series center, "change network scan settings..." and changed the name of my computer to one word with no spaces and it worked

My solution. I uninstalled the printer and I didn't grab the new drivers this time. I brought the printer up as a new installation
now I have the capability to scan to computer with no problems
there seems to be a problem with the driver (.exe) from the Lexmark site.
