Top loading washer - whining noise - spin cycle not working

Hi there, it sounds like there is a problem with the clutch. Try replacing the drive belt and see if you can move the drum pulley forward and back by hand. If it doesn't move, it could be seized on the brake, or the brake itself could be seized too. If you are able, the best thing would probably be to remove the whole clutch and brake assembly and get the brake tested. Sorry, but this doesn't sound like it will be an easy fix

Loud noise when in rinse cycle

Hi,
It sounds like your main bearing has gone out. It's quite an expense to fix and generally isn't worth fixing even if you do the repair yourself as the parts run about $600 by themselves and it takes about 1/2 a day to replace them. You can't replace the bearing itself so you have to replace the rear half of the outter tub and the inner tub.

Check your motor coupling, it is between the motor and transmission, made of rubber and plastic, if it is not broken and you heard a lot of screaching ,i would say it is your basket drive tube-could have gotten worn down on the bottom around the clutch brake area! Better purchase a used basket drive tube, install it with a new clutch and it will start working for you.

Thank you !!

When it is on the rinse cycle it makes a horrible sound

could be a clutch or drive tube problem, on the bottom of your basket drive tube is a thrust washer,it eventually wears off the boyyom of the tube and your clip that holds on your brake release arm falls off breaking your clutch arm and thus no spin will happen ,, sounds like yours is grinding off the bottom of the basket drive tube,, mine was always screaching on the rinse spin and finally gave out when it wore the bottom off my tube, went and bought a used tube installed it with a new clutch and works fine now no more screaching!

Spinning cycle

When it is spinning, there is no agitation. Why? there is 1 motor with 2 directions to provide sinning and agitation by 2 different mechanisms. The sound from spinning, and rinsing could be some worn out parts from the mechanism need to be inspected and replaced accordingly such as the pulley, the clutch, the brake and 8 springs from bottom tube hung to the chassis to keep the tube balance under the load. Hope this can help.

Dishes aren't clean. i have run vingegar and CR through the cycle but dishes and glasses still have a film.

The most common cause of film left behind is a broken heating element.

The heating element is not only used during the dry cycle, but also to raise the water temp. during the main wash cycle to activate the dishwasher detergent. Fixing the heating element should "clear" this problem right up!

Making loud knocking/clunking sound in the wash cycle.

i have the same problem. the transmission/brake assembly is worn out. the stopping and starting problem... I have that too, that was a dry solder joint on the circuit board. i found it because if I pressed on the area of the panel to the left of the cycle select knob, it would shut off immediately. I soldered it back up and it's fine. Still working on fixing the transmission problem, the parts store wants 300 bucks for the part but looking at the GE website, the tranny might be under extended warranty.

My washer will not work in the spin and rinse cycle.

Whats happened is that the clutch/brake assembly is stuck.Without a qualified service tech. you can really get taken if the repairman doesn't know the trick to this.I can walk you through this step by step and you need only a 5/16 nut driver or socket.
