I just bought a Seagate 500GB 7200 rpm external hard drive and the sheet said to visit your site to get additional instructions. Do I need more instructions or do I just plug it in and it does the rest. Robert.

You should be able to simply plug it in...wait for the computer to recognize it and add it as a new device. Once done, you're ready to go.

It's a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB, serial number 9QM415RM. It runs perfectly (can hear humming) but my laptop isn't picking it up.

Access the manufacturer's web-site:

http://support.seagate.com/customer/warranty_validation.jsp?form=0

and enter the model-number, and the serial-number, to see if the disk-drive is still under warranty.

If so, Seagate will replace it, at minimal cost to you.
