Is the motor an original replacement and was the pulley installed properly? Is the belt in good condition? Was the belt tensioning device installed as previous? Were the drum bearings checked? Why did the previous motor fail? Answers to these questions may help correct the problem. Check to see what stops turning besides the drum when a too-heavy load is presented.

It sounds like your motor is faulty and cannot handle the load resistance.

Press start and it makes a buzzing noise. will not start

That is a bad motor. The motor is really easy to replace. You must order the motor specified for your machine. Most use the same motor but newer models have a diff motor depending on type or style of dryer. The blower wheel is backwards threads. The wheel sometimes is hard to get off the regular way. If it is then what I do is lock down the shaft inside the dryer and go to the backside. I insert a small hammer handle in between 2 fins at the 3 o'clock position and bang down wards with a rubber mallet. Most of the time this pops it loose. That is the hardest thing about it. The motor is held in place by cradle mount clips on each side. The wiring is nothing just a quick connect. 0c4038c.jpgI have repair photos on how to get into the machine and the manual HERE

Dryer making noise and quits running

You may need to replace the drum rollers and front drum glides. The motor definitely is bad and should be replaced.
A Maytag dryer is worth investing the repair cost.

Washing machiene agitator can only handle small loads

The dogs are not the problem. Assuming you have the series that uses dogs, the problem would be either: a broken motor coupling that barely grabs and can move the agitation with a small load but not with anything substantial (of which it will soon slip 100% of the time and nothing will move), or the clutch is worn and slipping---- just like a bad transmission in a car; when you go on level ground, the car has no problem, but start to go up an incline and the trans cannot do the job because it slips too much. Replacing the clutch/transmission assembly of the washer is no easy task. In either case, you need to remove the motor & pump assembly; this will give you a chance to see the coupling (if it has broken fingers). If the problem is not the coupling, you need to go to the center of the machine; the trans/clutch/shaft assembly and have good tools to handle it. A big word of advise: replace the coupling even if it does not look too bad because they go bad easily and are cheap to replace while you have it all apart. Good Luck. Macgivor.

Whirlpool wshser-dryer: water won't drain, cycles won't start

You need to give more info in order for a diagnosis. Is this a compact stack unit or an all -in -one unit or an interconnected washer/dryer pair ? Is it front load or top load washer ? What do you mean by "dry cycle"? Is that dryer cycle or is it washer cycle without water ?
Usually when water cannot be drained it is a bad coupling connector on the motor drive, or a bad or clogged pump (small socks have been known to get sucked in an lodged in the pumps); in either case you need a good mechanic or a service person to handle the repair because it requires opening up the shell of the unit and getting to the motor/pump assembly. As always, disconnect the power cord before diving into the unit. Good Luck, Macgivor.

Drum spins without a load but won't witha load

It sounds like a motor problem. It puts the motor under maximum load, when dryer is full and just trying to begin to spin.
There are 2 different types of motors, those with capacitor start and those with inbuilt centrifugal switch.
What is your make and model of dryer please? Or if you take off the back panel, can you see a small plastic cylinder, about 2 inches long, with 2 wires to it? Will be mounted close to the motor, but seperate from it.
If it has one, try replacing the capacitor. ( I have about half dozen good secondhand ones lying around at my place (Brisbane))
Good luck, let me know how it goes.

Door will not open. lock handle floppy.

take top off and see if you can feel for the door peg sticking thro the interlock and operate by hand.
also, you can chew away the door handle and operate the door peg with a small screwdriver.
the door handle kit will need replacing anyway

Tumble dryer fault

usually this is a sign the felt bearings on the drum, or the roller bearings under the drum are worn and need replacing
felts and rollers should be visible once you open the case
check the rollers turn freely, check the felts are not worn through
replace both rollers or both felts if one is worn
