When turning on dryer you here a humm noise like the engine is trying to turn but it wont and shuts down. And smells like electrical burning. took apart to see if belt not belt nothing jammed.

Sounds like you have a faulty motor burning smell means overheating or shorting could also be faulty wiring or control you should cal an appliance serviceman good luck let me know how you went

Hello Obviously from what you describe, the drum is not turning.Most likely the drum belt is burning against motor pulley or idler pulley( most likely broken). If it were burning electric smell that would indicate motor under duress.If the dryer is full ,empty it and try again. You could have overloaded.If same result you'll have to open her up and check belt ,pulley and motor.
There's possibilty that the bearing is going bad. It would cause the belt to slide alittle when the drums starts to turn. The strain on the motor because of the bad bearing can cause the motor overload and shut down until it cools, then it can be restarted.
Dryers have a thermal fuse... typically a ceramic assembly 2-3 inches filled with resin and wires attached...usually near the motor. This may account for the burn smell. Turn the power off and replace .
If a dryer is not working at all that's not good! But it doesn't mean you need to go appliance shopping just yet. It may be something very simple like a bad door switch or even a broken door switch actuator, in a kenmore dryer there is a tab thats sticks out of a hole in the wall that allows the dryer to run only if the door is shut, other models may have button that protrudes out of the dryer and when the door is shut, this allows the dryer to run. These switches go out from time to time, also if a dryer is full of lint build-up over time this will cause the dryer high limit or fuse to blow. The fuse is located near where the blower is in most cases. When the air in the dryer gets way too hot the fuse/hi-limit will blow and the house wont burn down. If all of this fails then yes its the motor
soulds like the fuse in the unit overloaded, fluff or oter items may have fallen onto the element, or the unit was overloaded, and the belt was slipping on the motor drive pulley. check for rubber drive belt debri. replace damaged items as required.
it is most likely the belt. the squealing noise is because the motor is turning, but the belt is not. a replacement belt is not too expensive and it is fairly easy to replace. if you need directions how to replace it, let me know
