My Hyundai Platinum DVD Karaoke player keeps blowing its fuse. Can it be fixed?

Does this symptom indicates that the problem is definitely with the power supply and not any other component of the DVD player? I've read in other "how to" dialouges to check if the motor driving the DVD may be bad causing an overcurrent which then blows the fuse. Is that really a possibility?

Yes it can be fixed. If it is blowing a fuse, that's telling you that you have an internal short of some kind and the fuse is a safety devise to keep from burning the system up. Take it down to a electronics repair store that works on this type of equip, go through the yellow pages or Internet to locate a place. Have them give you a written estimate for the cost of repairing the unit. I don't know the value, but it could be something very inexpensive to repair. Good Luck,

Sounds like your power supply has developed a fault. I would be checking all the electrolytic capacitors on both sides of the switching transformer. HOWEVER, switchmode power supplies are extemely dangerous and if you are not familiar with their operation, DO NOT attempt this repair. Switchmode supplies have to be completely checked as the smallest issue or mistake will prevent them from operating correctly and the mains filter and surge electro's will hold their charge for several minutes. Be advised that this type of supply will happily supply all the current needed to kill you !!! That said, Always remove the mains plug from the wall ( dont rely on the switch), wait for several minutes and as long as you replace all parts with components of the same (especially temperature and value) or higher ratings and make sure that polarities are maintained, finding the faulty part should not be an issue.

Yes, a faulty motor may be the issue however, The controller will usually kill the power to the motor by switching the transistors off before the fuse blows. It may be the case that the designer or manufacturer did not build this feature into the controller board but they usually do!!
You can check this by checking the current draw of the motor with a multimeter but stay away from the power supply which is also usually a seperate board with the mains cable connected to it..If you can use a soldering iron and a multi meter then you can check the current draw of the motor.
I would suspect a faulty component in the power supply first though, as this is more common..
