Question about Huffy Disney Princess 16 in. Girls Bicycle

The handlebar keeps slipping down and will not stay up at a good height. I'm not sure what to adjust to keep it from constantly going down?

There is a bolt with either an allen head or a hex head that pinches the bar on the stem. Tighten this bolt and it should stay put.

The seat should typically be at a point such that your knee has a slight bend at the bottom of the pedal stroke. The handlebars go wherever they are most comfortable for you. Reach (horizontal distance) is adjusted with a different stem. Height on your bike can only be increased by using a stem raiser. The following Google search will show you what is available, and the video results will show the procedure to install it.

How do you raise the handlebars?


That depends on what sort of headset you have. the most common these days is a straight fork with a clamping stem that retains the fork, keeps the steering bearings properly loaded and that the handlebars attach to. You can get some that allow you to change the height, but if yours if fixed then likely the only thing you can do without parts is to flip the quill over. Depending on the stem you have and how it is currently mounted this might not gain you any height. As you can see from the picture, in this case flipping the stem over will lower the handlebars

How can i raise handle bars on my diamond insight


Today's bike stems have minimal adjustment height, if any. Look at your stem to see if it has spacers. These spacers can be moved up and down the stem. For more adjustments, you will have to buy a new stem. Here is a good place to read up on

I have a 2002 KTM 520 mxc. The bike started shifting hard as it warmed up. I replaced the clutch plates and springs with a Barnett digger kit. Bike shifts good now, but is slipping at higher RPMs.


The cable may be binding or the clutch adjustments may be wrong; there is normally two adjustments that have to be made if it is a cable style clutch.

1. the first adjustment will be on the engine near the clutch push rod and normally has a screw and locknut that is to be adjusted. Turn the handlebar adjustment first all the way in so that the cable has a lot of slack in it. Untighten the lock nut from the lower engine adjustment screw so that it does not interfere with the adjustment screw moving. Turn the screw inward until a very light tension is felt on the screw, then back it out about an 1/8 inch or so. tighten the lock nut back down and see if the locknut and screw together will rotate about 5-10 degrees when turned (this adjustment must not be so tight that it can not rotate when checked or it could cause clutch slipping so make sure that the adjustment screw rotates some after the locknut is tightened.

2. The final clutch adjustment is made at the handlebar. Turn the adjustment screw on the handlebar out until the clutch lever has about 1/8 inch of movement (before any tension is felt on the clutch lever) when the clutch lever is first being squeezed. Do not make the 2nd adjustment without any slack in the cable or the clutch may also slip.

If this is a hydraulic clutch and it slips at high rpm, the clutches could be getting hot, the springs are wrong for the clutch, or the clutch and steel fibers have the wrong installed height for the clutch hub (check the original clutch fibers and steels against the new ones installed and see that they are the same thickness or look up that fiber/steel thickness in a service manual).

Adjust handlebar height on Schwinn Varsity


I'm answering 7 years later. I have a Schwinn Varsity 2500 Bike made probably in 2015. The Schwinn Varsity Bike is not set up the same way as a traditional bike. I loosened the center compression bolt and the two side stem clamp bolts and it came loose where I can adjust it up or down but, there's nothing to tighten the slack up below. I did some research. My original post here was to add or remove a spacer. I think you can remove a spacer to lower but, I don't think the stem is long enough to add another one. I've seen they sell an extension that you can add-on to make the handle bars higher.

How do you raise the handlebars for the animator first bike by Giant bikes?

To raise or lower the handlebars, first loosen the hex screw on the top of the stem. One or two turns is all that will be necessary. Next, you will need to stand in front of the bike with the front wheel between your legs to brace it, and give the handlebars a forceful twist to the left or right. This action will break the friction of the handlebar stem and the headtube (the headtube is part of the frame where the front forks and the handlebar stem meet...). With the handlebars loosened you can adjust the handlbars up or down. Keep in mind that the stem has only a specific amount of adjustment available...there is a limit to how far it can be extended up, as indicated by a line marked on the stem shaft. Once adjusted to the desired height, check that the handlebars and front fork and wheel are aligned. Tighten the screw in the top of the stem and you're done!

Raise handle bars


At the centre of the handlebars you will note a bolt head that is separate from the ones that lock the handlebars in place. Undo that bolt in an anticlockwise direction. About three full turns should be sufficient. Now take a block of wood and place it on top of the nut to protect the surface of the nut. Get a friend to hold the bike steady because you will need both hands to keep the block of wood on top of the bolt and deliver two sharp blows with a hammer. The handlebars should now be able to be pulled up and down or at least twisted and pulled up and down. Tighten the bolt at desired height

The handle bars slip and tightening the nut doesn't work.


when you tighten the nut on the handlebar be sure the nut does not turn the bolt you may have to hold the bolt with a vice grip

If you are sure it is as tight as you can get it and the handle bar moves you may have to losten it and put a shim between the handlebar and the clamp throat

Also, the handlebar does go down into the forks this controls the side to side movement of the handle bars when you tighten this bolt it keeps the unit tight into the forks
