If the lines also appear when you make copies, it is the cartridge; if not, the lines are coming with the fax image.

I have a Canon MX850 and when I print something landscape there is a line down one side of the page....how can I fix this. The line is in the actual image.

Does the line actually look like many little dots? If this is what I think it might be, then it is just the way it is. The machine has little spiked wheels in the paper path to reduce the amount of contact it has with the media, these spiked wheels can get dirty and start having ink stick to them and cause lines. See if you can see the wheels from where the paper comes out and try cleaning them with water dampened Q-tips.

How do I print a transmittal report after each fax sent?

Press the Menu button; use the right or left arrows to select device settings. Use the up or down arrows to select Fax Settings. Then TX settings.
Select TX report, then select to print a transmission report after each transmission, then select attach TX image. (This will attach the first page of the fax).
TX report Sets whether to print a transmission report after each transmission.
When Print error only or Print for each TX is selected, specify the following.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Solid wet black line on back of pages

What happens when you print with single sided document selected in the preferences? Is there more than one MX850 printer driver showing in the Printers & Faxes (This is Windows ?? XP ? 95 ? ). If so delete all of them and reinstall. Otherwise I would check a printhead alignment from the Maintenance menu to see if that solves it.

Cannot receive auto faxes

This is a known problem with the MX850 - Canon thinks it works, but it needs to be FAX Only when you're out of the office and TEL PRIORITY when you're in the office - then you hit "Hook" when you hear an incoming call as a fax tone. It's a manual answer machine when in TELEPHONE Priority

Cannon MX850 Fax Problem

Have you tried telling the printer that it is to be used as "telephone priority"
Press the "fax" button on printer, then "menu" button
Use the left or right arrow keys to key across to "Receive mode settings" then press OK
Use the up or down keys to select receive mode. You should make sure it is in "telephone priority" then press OK

Hope this helps

Can not print the incoming fax as well as cannot copy a page

Hi
The scanner unit don't reach the scan possition. If you open the front cover, check and see if the is no obstruction in the scanner parth to flip down to the scan possition.Pull the scanner unit a few times foward down and backwards up.If that dont work the grease on the scanner clutch might cause the scanner not to go to scan possition. For service of that clutch you will have to take it to the Canon dealer.
