Question about Whirlpool RF378 Electric Kitchen Range

Opening the cook top in a Whirlpool electric range

I may need to replace the coil burner in a Whirlpool electric range Model RF378LXMQ. The biggest information I can't seem to find is how to move the cook top to get to the burners (for instance, the screw location, or does the cover lift on hinges or slide forward). Thanks for any help in advance!

The cooktop on this model range will lift up, exposing the surface burners and wiring harness. The screws are located along the bottom of the frotn edge of the cooktop. You will need to open the oven door to see them. Just follow these steps:

Before you begin:

1. UNPLUG the range before servicing. There are dangerous voltages still present even with burners turned off.

2. There are a few screws located under the front edge of the cook top. You will need to open the oven door to see them. Remove these screws and the top should lift up. If the range is not equipped with any kind of hinge supports, the top will have to be propped up.

On some ranges, there is a disconnect plug for the surface element wiring harness. If you have this feature, Follow these steps:

a. Unplug the cook top and leave the elements in place.

b. Place the whole cook top assembly face-down on a soft surface (like some old towels, or a blanket).

c. Remove the bad surface element by removing only the bracket pair that the affected element is attached to. Leave the rest of the elements wired together. Write down the wire color codes so you can be sure the new element is installed correctly. HINT: A digital camera can save you some time.

d. When installing the new surface element, make sure you use the same alignment marks (the numbered positions around the perimeter) as the old element. Avoid touching the burner surface and handle with care. Try to handle from the underside of the element only. Oil from your hands can cause damage to the element and/or premature failure. The elements are fragile.

If the wiring harness does NOT unplug, prop the cook top in place and install the surface element from underneath. A helpful hint: Use some duct tape to hold the assembly until you have screwed it back into place. Don't forget to remove the duct tape when completed.

If you have any questions about this repair, please let me know. You can reference searspartdirect.com for some helpful exploded view diagrams of you range for assistance if you need it. I hope you find this information helpful.

I have a whirlpool range rf263lxtq the oven stays consent on what is wrong with it

Oven clicks as if it is relighting almost constantly.

· Old electric range ovens use a coil heating element called a resistive coil.
This is nothing more than an electrical wire encased in a sheath. They have flat black coils over rounded burner drip bowls that catch your drips and spills.
· The newer glass-ceramic cook top style element produces heat that radiates through the glass top to the cookware above.
· Gas ovens / stovetop that use gas and not electricity. These work by igniting gas and use actual flame on the the stovetop.
· Newest cook top styles, such as the induction or halogen cook tops combine the same style to produce more even heating. Some of these ovens feature thermal limiters or thermostats that regulate the burner system. GAS OVENS 1)The spark igniter tip is dirty (can clean it with either a little wire brush or a piece of fine sandpaper).

2) The Pilot flame is too low, and the tip of the igniter is not in the flame good enough. (the flame acts as a circuit when it touches the tip & completes the circuit).

3) The spark module is no good and needs to be replaced.(But 1 & 2 are your best bet).
spark module does not sense the flame when it's on. The spark igniter is also the flame sensor which provides feedback to the spark module.

Make sure the igniter is properly aligned with the burner lighting holes and it is clean. All lighting holes must be clean too. You can enlarge them using a drill bit one size bigger.

If it would not fix the problem, replace the bake burner and the igniter.

There is a small chance for the spark module itself to be bad as well.
ELECTRIC OVENS:

CHECK THE OVEN RELAY CONTROL BOARD Aclicking sound could be something wrong with a relay. Check for any loose connections around the main control board on your oven. The click you hear is a relay losing power and switching back on. If the clock resets then something is causing power interruptions to the board.

How do i change a whirlpool model wbp88800 burner control

Unplug stove. There should be two screws under edge of the cook top. You need to open oven door to get at them. Remove screws, lift cook top up at the front and prop it up. There will be two or three screws with spring clips holding the burner to the cook top. Unplug the connections, remove screws, remove burner. Install in reverse. I did this at Christmas just in time for dinner. It takes about ten minutes.

The rarely-used back right burner on my glass top GE electric range doesn't work, but the rest of the burners and the oven seem to be working just fine. Is this something I can fix myself, or do I need to...

Open the oven door and look for screws that hold the cook top down. Take those out and the cook top lifts off from the front. Make sure that you unplug it first. Then you can see the coil that is not heating. IT could be the wires, connector or the coil itself that is bad.

Stove burner gets red hot

Since you do not have a thermostat control on your burners, I would suspect you may have an infinite switch (burner control), that controls that particular burner, possibly starting to go bad. The thermostat control is located on the infinite switch itself and may be cycling on and off improperly. Its hard to tell with intermittent problems, however. If in doubt, you can do a comparison between a working 8" inch burner and the one you are having problems with.

Another thing to consider with these coil type plug in burners, the receptacles under the cook top that they plug into can gradually become loose over time and cause the burners to arc. This may also cause excess current flow through the burner and will eventually cause burner coil damage and/or receptacle failure. I would troubleshoot this by, first, by unplugging the appliance and inspecting all the burner receptacles. If any show signs of burning or melting, replace them. You will need to lift the cook top to access them. Locate the screws under the bottom front edge of the cook top (open the oven door to see them) and remove them. With the screws removed, the cook top will lift up. Prop in place using the hinge supports.

NOTE: Remove the burner coils and bowls before lifting the cook top.

Replacements parts (including burner receptacles) can be purchased at pcappliancerepair.com, appliancepartspro.com, searspartsdirect.com, or repairclinic.com.

REPLACE CRACKED GLASS COOK TOP

First of all, if the cook-top broke as a result of a manufacturer defect, the repairs should be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. In this case, the repairs would be done at no cost to you. If, however, the glass top was broken as a result of the consumer, the repair will not be covered (even if it is still under warranty). If this is the case, it does not require an engineer to replace a glass cook-top. It can be time consuming, though. If you are somewhat savvy with fixing things, it can be accomplished by the average do-it-yourselfer. The following link explains how to replace most glass cooktops:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r391448-replacing_glass_cook_top

The tedious part of replacing the cook-top is carefully removing and handling each burner element. These are usually ceramic and are very fragile. You must be handled with care. If there is no common disconnect, you also will be required to unplug each burner assembly one at a time and label the wires. A digital camera can come in very handy for this as well. The easiest way to do this is to remove the old shattered cook-top, first and lay it side by side with the new one. Remove and install one burner element at a time.

If you wish to pursue this and require additional assistance, please let me know before you rate the solution. I hope this helps you.

Whirlpool electric range burner power light stays on but no heat

Hello givemeanidth.
Welcome to Fixya

You said, have a Whirlpool electric range (model rf363pxpt0) with standalone burners - the burner power indicator light stays lit whether the heat control knob is on or off, there is no heat coming from the burner on or off. You pulled the burner from the receptacle and one of the tabs broke off and stayed in the receptacle. You removed the tab and made sure no pieces remained in the receptacle then bought a replacement burner, no change. You put the replacement burner in the back burner of the same size and had heat within 10 seconds. You changed out the burner with the one that had been in the back of the range, no heat. As long as the breaker to the range is on the power light stays lit but no power to that one burner only.

What is the model number and the age of your range?

Waiting for your reply.
