It sounds like a serious problem that would cost more to repair than the unit is worth. I would suggest that you not use the vcr. It could be dangerous to leave it plugged in. If there is a power problem it could cause a fire. I would say it is time to move on to a newer unit. I hope this advice helps and good luck.

I have an LG RC897T and a setting was changed so that Pause no longer works in Record mode. What setting do I need to change back?

You can reset the unit as follows:
  1. Press and hold the Power button or at least 5 seconds. This will force the unit to power off then turn the unit back on.
  2. Unplug the power cord, wait at least five seconds, and then plug it in again.

The power button flicks on and off and I have checked all my hookups, plugs ins and they all seem to be in working order

If you mean the on light goes dim, then I've had the same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

NOTE:
Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

Hope it may help you;

Auto Set Channels

1ST) see if the power is being turned off on the machine from the power source.Do you have a time screen? A screen that tells the time, is it blinking ? You could have a loose connection to the AC plug. Does the machine have a "back up" memory battery ?
2nd) Sound on only 2 channels thru VCR is a circuit problem.

Make sure it is unplugged. Take out the battery. Hold in the power button for up to 1 minute. Put the battery back in. Turn it on.

Try just unplugging the machine for a while....letting the circuit board clear any "memory". I worked for me with a spin cycle issue.
