I can connect locally, just not to the internet

I'm on a college campus. In my dorm I cannot catch the WiFi, therefore I have to use a cable to get internet. Now when I plug up to the cable it will connect me locally, but not to the internet. Although, in addition, i would like to say that I can connect with my roomate's cable just fine.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

It sounds like it may be problem with the WiFi circuits in your laptop.
Have you tried getting support direct from Acer?
I would try getting someone with a desktop linked to an on line internet through a router. Then getting him to add you to his local network If that does not make a steady connection, you definitely have a laptop fault.
This site may help you
http://www.driversupport.com/
They supply up to date drivers, but first will run diagnostic tests. It is a Norton Safe site. Please let me know how it goes.

I want to connect the netsurfer laptop using the internet wireless of ukzn (howard college) campus but it doesn't go through what coulf be the problem

Hi there,

It could be that the college WLAN (Wireless network) has some proxy settings. If you are from the same college you can try going to the IT support of your campus so they can configure your computer to be able to connect to the network.

On Dell Inspiron 1501, at college dorm, wireless internet drops

Hi,
Your initial thoughts are correct, the more people using the connection at the same time the slower the connection becomes.
This a common problem with schools, colleges etc that share the same internet connection.
Your only way around this problem will be to purchase an internet dongle that plug into the USB ports at the side or back of your PC. Other than that your stuck with lagging net services until late at night or early morning.

Regards.

Could not connect to campus wifi through leopard

You may need to access the network with the ASCII password. Is there a system administrator you can contact to get this code? It will be a very long string of characters and replaces the typical password you seen in many Airport type setups.

Need help with best connection type for college student in dorm

The enhaced version just give more range of signal over the normal dynex, regarding the internet provider it depends because sometimes you'll need a password and user to connect to the wireless signal. The dynex is used to connect from a cable signal (RJ-45)internet and then it will transfer the connection to wireless so it can be use from any laptop with wireless connection. So for example you DSL internet connection is a cable (RJ-45) then you connect that cable to the dynex router, then the router will automatically transmit the signal to wireless so any nearby pc can connect to it. If the laptop doesn't have wireless, then you'll have to buy a card to be able to connect to wireless signal or you could by also a (RJ-45 straight-through cable Cat 5e) to connect from one of the ports from the DYNEX to the laptop. Hope it helps.

Can i extend my wireless connections?

Ask your college if they have WIFI access available. Most colleges offer free WiFi access on there campuses. Ask the IT department about this. You might have to buy an adapter for your computer but it would only be a one time thing. Hope this helps.

Internet connection

For x5, you will need either cf wifi card or sd wifi card. If wifi network hotspot is free and internet access is allowed (check with your college's network administrator for information), all you need is be in the range, turn the wifi on and connect to it (there maybe several security settings you have to do on the axim and these can also be obtained from network admin). For paid hotspot, you will be redirected to enter username and password when you ty to access internet.
