Problem for HP Officejet 5610 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One scanner will not work

By Justus 999 on Jan 07, 2008

" "
Greetings,

I recently tried to use the scanner on my officejet 5610. When I hit 'scan' the screen will tell me 'No Scan Options Refer to device documentations. Press OK'.

I have lost all the device documentations so I need a little assistance if you can.

Thanks,

Justin

To all with this issue, are you attempting to use the USB connection or are you attempting to use a wireless connection? My suspicion is wireless and if so I can tell you how to fix it.

I've Tried Everything to fix my scan Problem with my HP 5610
Installed the full software with drivers from HP. That didn't help.

Uninstalled all the software, then reinstalled. Still, the HP does not recognize the scanner.

Downloaded the HP Image Zone/Photo and Imaging Unexpected Internal Error and Communications Failure Patch.
DIDN'T WORK.

I'm out of options, unless someone out there has a solution I haven't heard of yet. At this point, I think its a hardware problem.

I'm about ready to throw this thing in the junk pile. Trying to get the scanner to work or even be recognized has been extremely frustrating to say the least.

If anyone knows the fix, please e-mail.

Thanks...Rick...Pittsburgh Pa

hi,

uninstalling and reinstalling the software wont solve the issue. here are the steps that would help solve the issue.

1. OPen the solution center.
2. Look for the option that says SETTINGS,
3. When u click settings, you will have there several options, just click on SCAN PREFERENCES
4. then, inside scan preferences you will have several options, go the SCAN TO.

Note: the reason why it says "NO SCAN OPTIONS" from the printer panel monitor its because the printer dont have options to where the scanned document/picture be sent.

5. when scan to menu is open, YOu will have two columns there, make sure to ADD all the Programs to Printer/Control Panel.
Example:

DESTINATION LIST CONTROL PANEL

Email |
Microsoft word |
.pdf

.. those are just few options frm destination list.. you just need to hightlight one at a time.. then click on "ADD" to control panel.

so, after doing that.. try to click on "UPDATE DEVICE" on that same window itself.. if no option given try to click on OKAY or APPLY.

after doing the steps, try to scan again.. and it will give you "OPTIONS"... that should SOLVE the problem of getting a message "NO SCAN OPTIONS"

when scan option is wrong to the scan button on the printer. the solution center should be set up which destination to be saved on. and be aware as well that if you are using wireless sometimes the scan to option button on the printer disapears because some interference to the wireless it is really better to use usb..

I don't know how or why it work, but I got the Officejet 5610 to work by doing the following steps.

1) install Vista drivers, OCR, Solution Center and run into scanner problem
2) uninstall Vista drivers and reboot
3) install HP Officejet 5610 drivers for XP and when Vista complains, retry installing (w/o uninstall) 2-3 times
4) uninstall all XP HP drivers
5) install Vista drivers, OCR, and Solution Center
6) Go to Scanner settings before you actually try to scan something and change a couple things around.

Somehow it works both from the button and from Solution Center

If you got any comments or better suggestions, please email me at info@agent619.com

Windows Vista causes an error with the scan feature of the HP officejet 5610. To work around it use the paint program:

1. open paint program
2. click file
3. click "from scanner or camera..."
4. scan menu opens

from there simly select the type of scan you would like to do and click the scan button

I just had this problem myself and the fix is very easy.

Go to the HP website. Go to Support & Drivers. Search for "inkjet 5610" and then select HP Officejet 5600 All-in-One Printer series » HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One Printer

from the list. Then select your operating system (mine was XP). Then go to the Utility section at the bottom of the page and select "HP Scan Diagnostic Utility". Then on the next page, select the blue button that says "Download Only" and hit the "RUN" button. When the utility comes up, hit the "Diagnose" button. When my diagnosis came up, it showed that my "HP Digital Imaging Monitor" wasn't working and it had a red "x" next to it. It tells you to click the words next to the red "x" and click the Fix button. That's it. Here is the link below (if you have XP). Hope this works for you.

Since I had the same problem - I did it, it founds some problem with the startup digital monitor. I pushed the "fix", and though nothing changed, all of the sudden the scan from the scan button started working.

I figured out how to deal with the "No Scan Option" error on the HP J6480 when scanning from the panel of the printer.
The reason it did not work is because the HP Digital Image Monitor was not installed. It would not install, because I never successfully uninstalled the printer.
I followed Almost There's (HP Support Group) tips for uninstalling, namely:
1. Load the Installer CD
2. Right click CD/DVD ROM Drive (drive where you load the CD)
3. Click Explore>Open Util folder>CCC>Uninstall L1,L2 and L3. Don't uninstall L4.
4. Restart your computer then proceed reinstalling the SW.
Then I downloaded the from the HP Website the Full (not basic) software version.
I then ran it on my computer. It found the printer. Ta dah, I could scan from the printer because the HP Digital Monitor is now installed.
I do have Kaspersky Security on my computer. With firewall turned on, it still works.
I hope this helps anyone else

I wrote to this forum about this problem with the 5610 scan function in mid November. I tried all the fixes here to no avail. I also spent 12 hours (no exaggeration) on the phone with the techs at HP to no avail. They finally concluded it was a function of having added Vista to an XP machine. I'm beginning to think they are right and not just passing the buck. By the by, I then took the 5610 back to the vendor (Staples) who was sympathetic and let me buy a new J6480 HP as almost a wash price-wise. Guess what? Same problem. I'm using this experience to work on developing patience in my retreating youth.

It will not scan--no way, no how--even after 10 hours on the phone with very helpful, but ultimately stumped HP tech people. In the end, they believe it is an issue with Vista because I have a Toshiba laptop purchased in late 2006 as Vista-Ready. I installed the accompanying Vista upgrade and all seemed fine until little problems like this emerged. Toshiba won't help because they insist it is really an XP machine. What a conundrum. I'm planning to write to all three CEOs to protest the run-around.

C6280.. same problem. After 3 days and over 20+hrs with HP tech support. No solution . Reloaded the drivers.. including ver 10.. over 16 times.
No solution.

Was explained that their software programs the buttons.. and for some reason .. its ont working. Even loose the options on the HPSOlution Center software. They DID CONFIRM that the software was very buggy.

When I hit the scan button, it says "No Scan Options..Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot. I have read the entire troubleshooting section of the manual, and it does not mention failure to scan.

My HP OfficeJet 5610 All In One Printer Scanner does not work with the new desktop computer I just purchased with Vista. The printer works but I cannot scan. Can anyone offer a suggestion short of me purchasing a new printer.

HP 5610 All-In-One will not scan. HP solution center icon has disappeared from my computer as well. I can print and fax, but it will not recognize the scanner. What is the deal? I have contacted HP SEVERAL times to no avail. Please let me know when someone finds a solution.

The same thing happened as described.

It isn't the device, it is either the vista, or hp drivers for it. HP is supposedly working on it, but don't hold your breath.

I just install Vista and HP's Vista driver for Officejet 5610. When I hit the scanner button it complains saying that there is no documentation.

On my prior XP system I just did a work around by using "HP solution center" and ran scanning from there. Worked perfectly every time.

Now in Vista, the scanning logo pops up and just freezes for a long as 1 hour. I had to manually stop this program from Task Manager just to get the logo off my screen.

Can anyone help with this situation at jeff@agent619.com

I've Tried Everything to fix my scan Problem with my HP 5610
Installed the full software with drivers from HP. That didn't help.

Uninstalled all the software, the reinstalled.

If anyone knows the fix, please e-mail me at: RICKW3DVE@AOL.COM

Thanks...Rick...Pittsburgh Pa

Guys,

I have the same problem with the same device with Windows Vista Home Premium, although everything worked perfectly with XP. The thing is, I've re-installed the software like a zillion times, I've been talking to the useless HP support team both in my homecountry, Greece, and the US, almost every day for the past 4 months (!!!) and the problem just remains the same... I'm so tired and my patience has run out.

I've installed the drivers and software both from the internet and from the cd they sent me for Vista, but still. It will not install any software related to the scanner (like OCR), and -surprise surprise- at some point during the installation when it lets me choose what programmes to install, all the software related to the scanner is already ticked, in light grey, canot be un-ticked and in parenthesis it reads "Already installed" !!! Also, during the installation's 8 steps, step No5 takes for ages and then I get a red X mark and a message reading like "Fatal error occured. Please click Continue to install the rest of the software". I've tried deleting everything from the windows registry following HP's instructions, I've used different cables, and still nothing. The only thing I haven't tried is to uninstall Vista all together and install it again. The reason I haven't done that is, I have so much software and personal files and settings already configured, that it would take days to turn everything back to normal, just because the stupid HP scanner won't work.

Can anybody please help? I'm desperate.

Adonis
