Question about Ricoh Aficio 1022 All-In-One Laser Printer
Sorry for the delay in response, never got notification of your first reply. Out of curiosity, what would the temperature be (in the mornings) where this copier is located? It's not out in a garage or shop area is it?
What you are doing is clearing out a fusing error. This is, of course, a warm-up error code as listed below:
Fusing temperature warm-up error.
The fusing temperature does not reach the standby temperature within 20 seconds after the main switch is turned on.
• Fusing thermistor defective or out of position
• Fusing lamp open
• Fusing thermostat open
• Power supply board defective
• Poor connection of the fusing unit
I'm going to guess that your issue would probably be due to toner build-up one or both of the thermistors in the fusing unit.
The fusing unit has a maintenance schedule of 120,000 prints/copies. In other words, every 120K prints (i.e. 120K, 240K, 360K, etc.) This is approximate, sometimes you can get more or less from the parts.
I'd check the counter on your machine (Press the 'user tools' button in the upper left of control panel, then the onscreen button 'Counter' in lower right of the screen), and see if it is time for these parts to be replaced.
If it's not time, you could have someone who is mechanically inclined try to check and/or clean the thermistors. When cleaning, they would need to be VERY careful as they are fairly delicate, and have a protecting coating over then to keep them from scratching the surface of the hot roller. If this coating is worn off at all, they would need to be replaced.
To clean, GENTLY scrape the hardened toner off the surface of the thermistor, a fingernail is probably best. I can't stress enough the need to be careful with them! If something happens to it, the machine will not function until the part is replaced...
Below is an image of the procedure, the fuser is behind the right-side access door, at the top. Be warned, the fuser is EXTREMELY hot, and should be cooled off before attempting. Average operating temperature of the fuser is 340F...
