Question about Uniden TRU9480 Cordless Telephone
When I receive a call the Caller ID doesn't register. The phone also rings 1 time then stops and picks back up on about the 3rd time it should ring. Contacted phone company and everything is okay on their end. Uniden said they are sorry but it must be the base unit since all the phones work correctly. Unfortunately I will have to purchase a new set of phones. I hate to throw away 4 phones that are less than 18 months old. I have checked everything out and it is the base unit. Can't find the base unit for sale anywhere.
The Uniden TRU9XXX series has a high level of handset compatibility between bases. Depending on the handsets you bought to go with your 9480, you may be able to buy another model in the series and use the old handsets with the new model. Alternatively, you could buy another 9480 here (the -2 on the end of your model number just means that it came with an extra handset).
Before you do that, though, it might pay to hook up a regular (corded) caller ID-enabled phone to the line and see what happens there when you call. If it works properly, go buy your new phone. However, if you see the same behavior there as with the Uniden, chances are that the problem is not with the phones. Possible other causes could include a fax machine, modem, or other device in-line with the phone; a defective piece of equipment hooked up elsewhere in your house; etc. If nothing obvious applies, you might want to give the phone company another call--just because they couldn't find a problem on their end doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

This feature lets you know who is calling
without looking at the display.
To use this feature, you must:
- subscribe to a Caller ID service of
your service provider/telephone
- turn this feature on (page 24).
When caller information is received, the
handsets and base unit announce the
caller's name or phone number received
from your service provider/telephone
company following every ring.
The unit announces in English only.
L Name pronunciation may vary. This
feature may not pronounce all names
L Caller ID service has a limit of how
many characters can be displayed. If
the caller's name is too long, the
handset may not be able to display or
announce the entire name.
L The announcement is heard at the
same level as the ringer volume (page
L If you turn on the answering system
and set the number of rings "2
rings" (page 36), the unit does not
announce the caller information. If
"Toll saver" is selected and there
is a new message, the unit does not
announce the caller information.
