Question about HP ScanJet 4850 Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Scanjet 4850 flatbed

When I scan images on my flat bed it looks like light is bleeding through. This particular model has a negative scan function and it appears the light in the center of the lid for that is the source of the bleed through. Are there any fixes for this?

Hmmm... Throw a rather large hard covered book over the top of the lid when scanning?

I'm wondering if the light is uniform all the way across the light bar. Do all of the LEDs or whatever lights up inside the bed seem to be all lit up -- especially in the middle?

OK -- How about a dark room? Does scanning in a dark environment make any difference? I guess what I am trying to do is see if its something inside the scanner or if its light effecting the scanner. What do you think?

How to scan a slide on flatbed scanner

This model Canon MX700 cannot scan slides.
A flat bed scanner that can scan slides and negatives has a light scource that shines through the slide and negative fand is detected by the scanner sensor.
I suggest you purchase a slide scanner, it will be cheaper that getting a new flat bed scanner with slide capability.

I have connected the TMA to my hp scanjet and I have put a slide in it, but when I scan it, all I get is a scan of the whole glass and the slide is black.

When scanning slides and negatives the scanner lid lights up so light passes through the slides and negatives and the image is picked up by the sensor.
If the image of the whole glass is black then most likely the lamp in the lid is faulty.

When I scan a negative, all I get is a picture of this negative which is useless. I thought that I could get the picture out of the negative that I scanned and save it so that I could get rid of the...

With the scanner you should have received a cd "HP Scanjet 4800 Series HP IMage Zone Software. Mine is version 5.3 for Windows/8.4 for Mac OS v 10.2.
I have this installed on a pc.
When the button on the lid (2nd from left ) is pressed this opens a window HP Scanning.
On this is an option to "Scan Negatives using the TMA (Transparent Materials Adaptor)" Select this and follow any further instructions concerning optons.

HP Scanjet 5590 scans inmage on other side of paper on ADF Ok on flat bed

Really strange! May be the brightness is not controlled in the ADF mode, too bright to scan data on the backside also. Try reinstallig the software.

ADF

1- reinstall drivers

2- Use the WIA driver for Windows OpSys

3- Pay close attention to options in dialog box. Select ADF or Document Feeder as an option

4- Depending on the OCR application [personally I prefer PaperPort] the imaging process can be very eaasy or somewhat difficult

This might be a hardware problem, but it could also be caused by an outdated (or corrupted) driver; you could uninstall the original driver, then download and install the newest version directly from HP here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&product=446435&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

If that link is broken, or doesn't work for you, use this one:

http://tinyurl.com/2n7lge

Also, I've copied the following information directly from the HP 4850 Scanjet user's manual:

If you have the HP Image Zone software installed, you can use the onscreen Help to solve other problems with the scanner. To gain access to the Help, open HP Solution Center, click Help, and then click HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner Help. The Help system provides information about the HP Scanjet 4800 series scanner hardware as well as information about the HP Image Zone and HP Scanning software itself. Also, see Scan troubleshooting in the general Troubleshooting and support section of the Help.

Good luck with this; let us know what you learn...
