Question about Dell Inspiron 9200 Notebook

2 Answers

Hopefully a graphics problem.

There is a two inch wide multicolored band down the middle of my screen, and another one inch band (to the right) that's just lighter than the rest of the screen. The screen problems have been going on for a couple of months and for a while the band was blue, then black and now its this multicolored pin striped thing. Do you have any idea if this is fixable? I bought the computer in 2003/2004 so its not worth me putiing a lot of money into.

Re: Hopefully a graphics problem.

Dell is offering to replace the LCD on the Inspiron 9200 within 3 yrs of purchase under recall for free. You must talk to a supervisor because most of the "others" have no clue. Hope this helps. I replace mine, my wifes and my sisters under this program.

My hp dv4 have vertical colored lines on my lcd screen about 1.5 inch width on the rights side of the lcd screen.. can this be fix? how?

If you are lucky, this may be down to a loose vga cable connection on the back of the screen, or at the motherboard.

First eliminate the possibility that t may be graphics chip related by seeing if the laptop will work on an external monitor without the banding you describe. If it will, you will need to remove the laptop screen and see if the connection there is tight. Check also at the motherboard end (remove keyboard and switch panel)

If it is tight, then suspect that the screen is beginning to fail, look for a replacement.

If the monitor shows a similar pattern, the issue is with the graphics chip ( common problem with HP laptops)

I have a 2inch wide band down middle of screen on

1) Have you installed new drivers or software or drivers? If so, remove them and restart the computer.
2) Try applying pressure with your fingers on top of the screen. If the band dissapears or dimishes, you may have a broken screen and it will need to be replaced.

Have a gray transparent band on right side of screen

do you ever run dual displays using a monitor?if so,is the gray band on that screen too?if you grab the screen at the top and flex it left or right does the image change,if it does, check your display connection to the graphics card on the motherboard, and inspect the ribbon for signs of damage,if the same image is on a monitor in dual display,it may be a software problem uninstall your display adapter and all monitors in device manager,,and any software related to it ,restart and when it automatically finds new hardware, cancel it,go to the ibm support site get the latest bios update flash it exactly as the instructions state,,download fresh graphics driver and reinstall, hope this helps aloha from maui todd0708

A 1-1/4" wide band on screen from top to bottom

your laptop trouble mostly cause disconnection between motherboard LCD signal output socket to the lcd panel driver board(at back of panel there is a board at top of back panel. there are two posible repair:
1) check disconnection parts like LCD signal cable between motherboard and LCD panel and all plugs sockets around there. it could be fixed.
2) LVDS decode and driver board damage or matrix rubber cable disconnected they all tough to repair, so that is only easy way to change a new LCD panel finally
it this helpful please feed back thanks
