My Hitachi 50" was on, I was watching a movie and then it went off and I have not been able to turn it on since. Tried unplugging it and placing into a new outlet red power light came on just for a second then went back off. When you unplug it and then plug it back the red power on light wil come on then go back out.

plasma tv units use a lot of power ,well into the hundreds of watts 9 some big screens use up to 800 watts to work)
I suggest that you consider a new led unit which uses barely any power and you will get a remote with it

TV turns itself off then back on

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.
Capacitors are very inexpensive but require some soldering skills to repair.

Hope this helps

Hitachi 50" big screen TV

You have a defective light engine and Hitachi is aware of it. Here's what you need to do...recently went through this. Call Hitachis customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and tell them you have a defective light engine. At first, they will act like they've not heard of this problem but they are all too familiar with it. They will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area. Once the tech comes out and confirms the problem, call Hitachi back at the 800 # I listed and they will call and confirm with the dealer that you have a bad light engine. They will send a brand new light engine to the dealer (Hitachi will cover the cost $1500) and the dealer will call you to come out and install.

Here's the kicker, if you're not still under warranty, Hitachi will cover the expensive part but you will have to pay the install. Our install was $400 but others on this site have paid around $200. If you're still under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part and install.

Please do not let any dealer tell you that you have to pay for this part. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are replacing it to you for free...you just pay the install. Also, deal only with their customer relations at the 800# I listed.Good Luck:)

Tv turns off and on by itself

Here is the link for the manual if you need it http://merchant.satisfusion.com/library/manuals/owners/50_60V500.pdf check page 57 - see if there is a timer lock activated somehow or a ratings lock check that the button on the remote is not malfuntioning by taking the batteries out and see if the problem persists check page 63 about screensavers !!!check page 67 about the on-off timer check page 75 - power issue troubleshooting check that there is not a problem with the bulb or the cooling fan - maybe an overheat safety device switching your screen off and then back on again. Hope this helps :)
