I have a Western Digital 80 gig portable that has stopped working. The green light does not come on. It does not respond to either a USB plug or a electric power plug. What can I do to get my stuff off of it?
Thank you,
Kathy

Well, of course it didn't work. The drive would still not spin. Guess I am out of luck. I read online somewhere that if I got the exact same hard drive (Western Digital 80 GB Passport HD) and switched out the circuit boards that I might be able to get my data. Still thinking about that one. Hate to tear up a new HD. I backed up this drive in late October but of course as fate would have it I have added a lot of stuff since and have not had time to back it up again. Ugh! Thanks!
open it it up take out the hard drive, purchase a USB hard drive enclosure and install the drive. hopefully the drive is still good and spin up
hope this helps

- sorry to hear that, If you decide to replace the board on the drive make sure it is the EXACT model,on both boards or you will surely see some smoke.
boards are easy to replace, few screws pull up slowly
good luck!.
