Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 30 Series II Typewriter

2 Answers

Light typing It appears that the keystrokes are not hitting hard enough, since the print is too light & some of the ink is left on the ribbon for each letter. We have changed the ribbon and cleaned the print wheel but it does not improve the problem. Should we buy a new printwheel to see if this solves the problem?

My typewriter is a Swintec 7040 and am experiencing the same type of problem even though the impression control is set to the max. A repair person came in yesterday but was not able to resolve the problem. I have tried changing ribbons, but it didn't help.

I, too am experiencing light, almost flaky letters from my IBM Wheelwriter 5. None of the ladies in my office want to get rid of it as it's the easiest to use. We've tried to replace it, but ended up bringing back the IBM Wheelwriter 5. If we could only fix the problem, we'd all be happy. We've replaced the cartridge, ribbon, had it serviced and nothing seems to help. Hopefullly someone has an answer. Help!

I assume you have tried new ribbon and printwheel, remove the ribbon look down near the l. side frame of the printer there is a round solenoid that drives the print hammer try to get some light oil on both the front and back of the plunger. if this fails the plastic cap on the solenoid is probaly cracked or gone they are available for abouy 15.00.

IBM Wheelwriter 6 Typewriter - while typing, characters just quit printing on paper. Checked ribbon, machine etc. Everything checked out?? What could be the problem.

It is probably the print solenoid that has a broken cap. I have seen a few advertisers that sell the repair kit with instructions. It is fairly simple to repair.

could be a defective ribbon, try new one if it looks like the letters are almost typing on top of each other on the ribbon. it could be a problem with the ribbon drive of the printhammer. if a new ribbon doesn't help, get professional help.

The striker appears not to strike the Daisy wheel letters firm enough to produce a dark and clear letter. Many times the result is a letter not fully printed and it appears to be lighter along the left...

Please check the ink ribbon. There are two types of ribbons. The plastic one can be used once and if you try it the second time then there is no guarantee that all letters will appear fine and legible. (as may be happening in your case). The other is the cloth ribbon. This can be reused and it keeps fading as you keep repeating it. But in this case all letters are faded and nor selective.

Zebra Z4MPlus not printing dark enough

In your label software there should be a setting option for print darkness (I assume it adjusts the head temperature) In ours (bartender) you can get to it when you select 'print' and a window appears with a 'documents properties' button. Click on this and select options and a darkness bar appears which you can adjust. You may also need to slow the label print speed if the darkness adjustment is not enough. I suspect it isn't in the printers best interest to run the print head at maximum darkness/heat so a sensible balance of darkness and print speed is best.
Another, less likely, possibility is an incompatability between the label material or surface finish, and the ribbon type. We did have a problem once whem Homebase changed their price label design and we had to test a load of other ribbon types until we got one that did the job. A chat with the label or ribbon supplier is always usefull, they sent us several sample bits to test.

could be the ribbon is not lifting, do you see an image on the ribbon, also may be twisted inside the cartridge the shiny side has to be facing the keyboard.

KEY STRIKING PRESSURE

Try taking the ribbon out and looking at it see if there is one spot for each character on the ribbon or if they are overlapping. If they are over lapping then either you have a problem with the ribbon drive assembly on the machine or it is set for a multi-strike ribbon.

Print head and ribbon do not in sync

sounds like the ribbon carriage is out of position, try holding the shift, and code keys, then power up, if thats no help the hold frame might have to be resitted.
