Question about LG TROMM WM2688H 4.0 cu.ft. Front Loading SteamWasher

No hot water entering

I have a 1.5 year old LG Tromm washing machine. I think it is having a problem getting hot water. When I start a cycle with a hot wash cycle, the washer spends about the first 5 minutes of the cycle just buzzing a little. After this, it starts filling with cold water and runs the entire cycle from there. It is like it tries to get hot water, then gives up. I never get the "IE" error that others report, but that always seems to be in reference to the cold water supply line being shut off for one reason or another. Here is the troubleshooting I have already done:

1. checked that hot water supply is on
2. checked the hot water hose for clogs/kinks
3. checked the intake filter for clogs

Any idea what is causing this? I dead intake valve? If so, how difficult of a job is it to replace this?

Any help is appreciated!

I found the source of the problem, and it wasn't the washing machine at all. I had bought Watts Floodsafe (TM) hoses to connect the hot and cold water. The hot hose shutoff valve had been triggered. This was only supposed to happen when the flowrate exceeded a set amount.

As far as I am concerned, these hoses are worthless if they shut-off when they aren't supposed to. I wrote to the company and they responded saying they knew about this problem with modern washing machines, and they don't intend on fixing it. This is their response:

"We apologize for this inconvenience you are experience with the FloodSafe Series hosed. The hose assemblies are build to meet Uniform Plumbing Code Standards (UPC) that limits the flow rate to a max of 2.5GPM.
Watts is unable to manufacture the hose assembly to meet washer machine requirements. The problem you are describing sounds like you many have a hammer effect occurring every so often. This water hammer would be a result of the washer machine's quick acting valves opening and closing. You may resolve this matter by installing a small water hammer device inline on the back of your washer machine."

I believe it is unacceptable to have to buy a second device to make their device work. I am going to replace the hoses with the ones that came with the washing machine. I recommend people against buying the watts floodsafe products for use with washing machines. Having to "reset" the shut-off valve every month or two is not worth the added piece of mind of these hoses.

1. Make sure water comes out of the hot water hose into a bucket.
2. Check to make sure the solenoid valve is working. The buzzing is the 60Hz on the coil and can make a lot of noise if valve does not operate properly. Try blowing into the hot water port. If the solenoid is functioning properly air will move freely, if not its stuck.

Thank you Internet!

We had Floodsafe hoses on our Tromm 2277HW and I switched them out for the stainless braided hoses from Lowe's. New hoses, no problem. It's a fast open/close solenoid on the Tromm's and a water hammer arrestor can also help but we got a new well pressuretank and upped the mains pressure which kept tripping the Floodsafe device. These are probably fine ofr older top loaders but I'm upset I was advised to pay a premium for something which wasn't a good fit to beign with.

Thanks Chihuahua31 for your latest insight. I happen to have the same type hoses on my Maytag washer (I just looked!). Anyway, the tag on the hose said to unhook it and that will reset it. I'm assuming that means at the faucet end (hopefully!). I have my machine attempting to rinse on hot right now -- it'll only fill on the 'wash' cycle, not the 'rinse' cycle since my machine only allows cold water for rinses. If that does the trick, at least I'll know what to do for future problems.

well it would seem these are the possibilities:
1. cold water not turned on
2. hose kinked
3. inlet valves not working
4. wiring issue
5. control board issue
oh and plugged inlet fill filter

My washing machine keeps filling with water until it starts to leak when you start the wash cycle.

must be some sediment in the water pressure tube going up to the control. I would locate it and blow out the sediment, re-secure the tube nice and tight and retry.
I have a old LG manual HERE

"FE" error code; won't stop filling

Hello Sheri Tucker,

The "FE" code is referring to a bad or malfunctioning water valve. The machine continues to fill because the solenoid on the valve inside the machine isn't closing to stop the water. The valve should be inspected and/or replaced if bad. This will require some dis-assembly, if washing machine repair isn't something your comfortable with then a service call is the best bet. If you are going to try and inspect yourself please make sure you unplug the machine before starting any dis-assembly. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

LG Tromm Washer

Wash empry with detergent and double bleach with extra hot water. When cycle is complete open the door to the washer and let airdry. When you close the door with it wet it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. You may also not be using the correct detergent or the correct amount of detergent.

Embarrassing as it was, the hot/cold water hoses were switched - although it was installed by HomeDepot that way. It just didn't seem consistent enough for it to be such an easy solution...but it did the trick!
