I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 with Win7 and cannot connect to the internet via high speed modem LAN cable. Internet works on my other computer using the same LAN connection, but it is running XP. I

So is your Modem from a phone company like AT&T? It sounds like it is because phone companies use what is called PPOE which is where the modem is configured with a userid and password to get out to the internet.

Cable providers use DHCP and don't require a userid and password.

If your other computer works using the network cable but your toshiba won't work using the same network cable, I think the phone company has configured your modem to only look at and accept your other computer. You can tell the modem to use specific MAC addresses which are unique to every device that attaches to the internet. You want your modem set up to use a range of addresses, not a specific one.

Can I get my d 615 to work with Rogers high speed USB stick?

Hello,

The Rogers high speed USB stick will only work when plugged into a computer.

The stick does not work the same as a regular wireless card and so you can not use it to connect to your router.

You will need to have a seperate wireless network card to connect to your router, then your computer will be able to connect to both the network and the internet.

Thank you,

Pat

Do I need a modem to connet my wireless acer aspire one to the high speed connection I have at home?

What you need is a wireless router. Your high speed internet connection at home might have a wireless router built into it, but some don't. What kind of internet connection do you have? what's the model of the modem you have. If you're not sure, just list the model numbers of all of the devices you have running.

I'm using rogers as my ISP. my rogers modem is connected to symantec gateway security 360 switch which is connected to D-link switch. i am connected to the symantec switch, and have internet connection,...

Hummm
it may be a pretty simple fix.

Connect the modem from rogers to the WAN port not to the switch port of the symantec gateway

connect the DLink switch to a switch port on the switch part of the getway and both of you should be able to get an internal IP

The modem is extremely slow-most downloads are far too slow

Dialup phone lines usually only transmit a minimum of 8 Baud. NetZero's high speed (5X) faster is done by caching pages you have already visited, not actially running internet but loading pages faster on your computer. Check your modem setting, 56k, 112K are normal speed setting to connect. Check your actual connection speed, 28.8 is probably all that you are getting on dialup.

You will need to have a better internet (eg. such as wireless, ethernet)
Due to that modems are the very slow connections. Ask your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to see if it he/she can help you with it.

Connection problem

I attempted to access the Rogers site and it requires a postal code probably to tailor information to your specific area. According to wikipedia there are several levels of service that may come into play. Would you provide the postal code ans service level so I can research the issue on the Rogers web site?

Also please confirm if your router is a DLink DI-711 as indicated in the category this issue was posted upon.

I could probably guess as to the solution however I would like to confirm my answer before asking you to attempt it.
