It is possible that the connection from the lcd to the video card is loose and making intermittent contact,i think this laptop does not have an integrated video chip so if the card is the problem you can replace it,you will have to dismantle the laptop in order to see if the connection is loose or not, another possiblty is that the cable to the screen is the problem, from the description you gave of the picture on your external monitor it is more than likely that the video card is causing you to have nothing on either screen, hope this helps let us know what happens

Laptop black screen

You turned on your laptop and horrors upon horrors, the screen is BLACK! You see that the laptop has power but besides that nothing is happening.
I want you to know that there is a very good chance you can get out of this situation quickly and without any cost. This fix works on all brands of laptops:

• 1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY
• 2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it.
• 3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS
That will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen.
After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.
Replace your battery.
or if wont start
Here are the fix steps:
1. Turn off your computer
2. Disconnect every wire from it (including power)
3. Disconnect the battery from the bottom of the computer.
There will be two tabs labeled 1 and 2.
4. Re-plug in the power wire. (the battery should not be in the computer)
5. Turn on the power. The screen will work. Choose start windows normally. (if you get that screen)
6. Go to Control Panel -> (Mobile PC) -> Power Options -> Under Balanced choose change plan settings
7. Choose Change advanced power settings
8. Find Processor power management and change the minimum processor state from 5% to 100% for each On battery and Plugged in.
9. Click Apply then OK
10. Shut down you computer.
11. Disconnect the power cord.
12. Re-install the battery on the bottom of the laptop, plug in the power cord, and restart the computer.

Black screen on Inspiron 1525

This is a common problem. The problem is probably a bad charger. Take charger to a repair shop and ask them to check it. If it is good then problem is inside the laptop and probably the power connector.

BLACK SCREEN WITH POWER TO LAPTOP

O n most dell laptops right at the base of the screen is a panel that pops off. If so there is a small card about 1-2inches wide ans 3-4 inches long. It is above the keyboard. this is an aux. power board and should have a connection on it to help power the screen. If this model dosent have this poard than the built in screen cooler is bad and you will have to replace the whole screen.
