Replacing lid switch on Kenmore 80 series washing machine

One of your guys has told me that I probably have a bad lid switch, because my washing machine stops running in the middle of a cycle (won't rinse completely or go through spin mode).
Can you tell me how to replace the lid switch & where I might find the part (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.)?

It's attached under the top panel but depending on the year of manufacture it could be on the right, below a hole where the strike comes down or on the left rear under the console.

Can I replace the lid switch? is it expensive? How do I replace it?Kenmore 80 series washing machine.

you can replace the lid switch. Go to and put in your model #. it will pull up part #s and diagrams. You will probably have to take the cab off, which can be tricky. first unscrew the backguard and flip it back. You should be able to tip the cab forward now. The lidswitch will be attached to the cab, and there will be a plug attached to the backguard.

Kenmore Series 80 washing machine won't drain after wash cycle. The machine just stops.

Check the lid switch under the edge of the top where the lid closes. When you are about 1 inch from closing the lid you should here a little click sound. That is the switch closing. I fyou do not here the click then the switch is bad.

Kenmore washing machine 80 Series 110 20802 990 Will not agitate or spin"

You need to replace the Kenmore Washer Lid Switch. I had the same problem so being lazy I would just push down on the washer's lid and it would push the lid switch further down. making the water drain. after a while I just replaced the lid switch.

Kenmore series 70 washer won't stop agitating when lid Is lifted.

I have a Series 80 and when I lift the lid it does not stop aggitating when in wash mode. When I lift the lid it does stop spinning when in rinse mode. As designed.

To stop wash-mode aggitation at lid-lift, using the existing lid switch and other electrical components, is not easy and not recommended. I can think of a way to do it (triple-pole lid switch) but I will not detail the idea .. for safety concerns.

To stop aggitation, simply use the main settings dial control. You'll save money and possibly prevent a fire hazard!

It wont be the capacitor or the motor wouldnt work on the wash cycle. It could be the lid switch, & yes you could bypass the switch to prove if it is open circuit, you may even find a burned out wire to the switch. TURN THE POWER OFF FIRST THOUGH!!
