Re: stuck in set up mode

Hi ive been having problems when you put in a disc and it doesn't respond. is that whats happening to yours? if so i spoke to sony on saturday and they promised me a patch is out tuesday 8th so tomorrow, that is going to repair all disc loading problems, as it is hppening to thousands of ps3's. so wait till tomorrow download the patch if it doesn't work take the ps3 back to where you got it from, as it is less than a week old they will just replace it for a new one. hope this helps you

Start with the PS3 system turned off. Press and hold the power button until you hear three consecutive beeps then let go. Then repeat step one again. This time the last beep will be two consecutive beeps. This will put your PS3 system into safe mode. Click option 2. Restore default settings. Warning This will Reset all Settings.

Ps3 stuck in restoring default settings.

To fix this you can go into safe mode and do a couple things.
With the system switched off in the back, switch it back on and with the red light on, hold the power button until you hear one beep, then when you hear another beep let it go. It will now turn back off. Now holf the power button again , you will hear 1 beep, and then 2 quick beeps, then let it go. If done correctly, you will be in Safe Mode with 6 options (on some other models you will hear one beep, then another beep, then one more, that's when you release the button. Instead of 1 then the 2 beeps in quick succession).

Now that you are in Safe Mode select option 3 'Restore File System'. This will fix any hard drive a anomaly's.

Then try restoring it again. But just to let you know 'Restoring Default Settings' just is a fix for the XMB Menu screen (The Sony Menu screen when your PS3 turns on).
If that does not work try Option 5:
Restore PS3 System - IMPORTANT: All data will be lost by performing this step.
This will reformat the hard drive on the PLAYSTATION 3, deleting all data and restoring it to as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as [Restore PS3 system] on the XMB.
(I would try Option 5 from the beginning)

So to sum up how to get into Safe mode 'Direction-wise' from Sony:

1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on.
2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."

But like I said, it varies from system to system on the beeps.

If none of this help you have 2 more possible options: Do a restore from a previos Backup and Do a Complete System Restore from that or Replace the hard Drive if that does not work. If your down to these last options it would seem to be a Hard Drive issue.

BTW, I wouldn't worry about your system being "messed up for good". The system has its own Flash Memory it restores from that reall y never corrupts. The only reason that would happen if you stopped in the middle of a firmware option or system downgrade.

Good Luck Buddy.

Our play stion three cut off when we was playing a game the game is still stuck in it

1. Place you finger on the on/off sensor leave it their until you console turns off then take you finger off the sensor.

2. Place your finger back on the on/off sensor leave it their until you hear 2 consecutive beeps then take your finger off.

3. Once the safe mode screen comes on select the option PS3 SYSTEM RESTORE.

NOTE: A PS3 system restore will delete all data except the OS. I recommend backing up your console onto a USB flash drive if possible.

Good Luck!

My ps3 won't connect to av but it will connect with hdmi i tried holding down the power button it did beep three times but nothing happened it just stayed blank should i get a new plugin or is it just how...

if it is still stuck in HDMI mode then the easist way to get it to go back to AV is to plug it back into HD and go back into display settings and select normal AV.
Holding down the power button for 3 seconds will only work if the unit is turned off.

When I turn my ps3 on, there is no audio/video. I don't think it's a software update problem, as I was playing my ps3 about two/three hours ago. I turn it off at the back, chill for a couple seconds, then...

  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI OUT port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI Input port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive power button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light --> green light --> then back to red light). This will ensure that you have held down the power button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

Hi guys, I got this problem this monrning with my ps3 (60GB), I turn it on and after a couple of seconds it turns off, it also shows a red blinking light when off, then green blinks when turn on and last...

The dreaded YLoD, I'm sorry man.

here ya go:

You have the Yellow light of death. The YLOD is the Red Rings of Death, except for the PS32_bing.gif.

I recommend to service your system (if it's out of warranty). About half the price of a Sony2_bing.gif repair and you get YOUR system back, unlike when you send it to Sony2_bing.gif where you get some other random refurbished system.
WE has an automatic 90-day warranty, the same as Sony, but WE also gives you the option to extend the warranty up to 4 years.
The WE warranty also covers the entire system, not just what they fixed on it.

If it is still under original warranty, set up a service request with Sony using these instructions:

Make sure you erase all of your personal info off of your PS3 and follow the instructions on the page above.

Good luck!

Oh, and if you send your system in to Sony, you will get a different copy of the game that is stuck in your system packaged separately and later than when you will get your system back from Sony.

Ps3 update 2.5

This is a major problem caused by this update, some wont read discs, other wont load the menus. Consult the Sony website for updates or solutions but a popular solution is to enter recovery mode on the ps3, which restarts ps3 totally but formats the ps3, losing data. If you think this is viable, i have linked to the process but here it is:

Turn off Ps3
Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again
Once the system has been shutdown, re-press your finger until you hear dual beeps
When you hear the 2 beeps remove finger power button
You will be asked to plug in your controller and press the ps button
This will enter recovery menu, which is:

Recovery menu
- restart system
- restore default settings
- restore file system
- rebuild database
- restore ps3
- system update

Each setting does a different function, consult the manual or PS3 site for consequences but be warned: YOU RISK LOSING ALL DATA IF YOU DO THIS. BACK IT UP. This is not a proven fix for this issue as it is the update which seems to have totalled many PS3's but has proven effective and worked when my discs stuck on title screens, i selected first restart system, then restore default settings the 2 times i have done it and it fixed the ps3 but i lost all of my data.

Ps2 on ps3 game problems

I also had this problem running PS2 games. I noticed that when it happened, my bluetooth remotes becames unpaired and could no longer be used to turn the PS3 on/off. Pressing the PS button would not interrupt the hung PS2 game (i.e., it would not give me the options to quit the game, turn the system/controller off, etc.). I talked with the Sony Playstation folks and they suggested resetting the bluetooth controllers (by poking the hole on the backside next to the screw hole). They said sometimes the bluetooth info gets honked. Just before this problem popped up, I was messing around with pairing a bluetooth headset and may have interrupted the pairing. You may have a similar situation, so try resetting your controllers. You may have to plug into the USB port if they won't re-pair after resetting (I did). Good luck!
