Whirlpool Side By Side GD5RHAXNQ00-Electrical Issue

Fridge light is not working. The temperature control LEDs are not working.I replaced the lightbulb and there is a very small glow on the filament. There is an electrical "arcing" noise coming from a white relay box in the back of the Fridge–only when the Fridge side door is opened. The unit is staying cool.  Do I need to call for service or can I fix?

Re: Whirlpool Side By Side GD5RHAXNQ00-Electrical Issue

The arcing noise is just that, a loose connection causing electricity to arc from one place to another. this is initiated by opening the door and closing the light switch. The small glow is from a small amount of voltage reaching the bulb. If you are inclined, repair it. remove the cover, look for the burnt wire or connection. If its a removable part, replace it. If not clean it up and/or make a new connection. One thing is for sure, it will not get any better and may get worse and burn up something more critical.

The lights are controlled by door switches and a small circuit board near the compressor=> W10135090 Main Control Board
The control board is quite expensive and if you know someone that can replace circuit board parts it would really pay to have them replace a defective relay, Thanks Sea Breeze

You need to put a heat source in the fridge compartment near the fridge thermostat. Try putting a lower wattage bulb (40w) into the fridge compartment. Or even try this, take the door switch out of the fridge and short the two leads together. Tape the exposed ends with electrical tape and that should provide enough heat to keep your compressor on long enough to keep the freezer cold. Just remember to put the switch back in in the spring and summer months or you will have a real high electrical bill. Hope this helps you.

most comonly the door switch has blown. if you are not using the humid switch in the on position . condensation can build aroud doors and consiquence water gets into the switch. youll nead to unplug the unit and pull out the switch carefully not to damage the breaker strips use and olm meater to check the switch for condinuity.

Whirlpool GD5RHAXNQ00 Ice maker not making ice

We had a similar problem and there was a broken/stripped gear in the icemaker. A&E replaced it to the tune of $150 or so. I don't recall exactly but I recall my husband thinking he could replace the entire icemaker for the price we paid to repair it. The gear make the ice tray flip out the ice once frozen. Good luck, hope that helps a little.

Whirlpool gold refridgerator light not working and is making funny noise

Had the identical symptoms with my Whirlpool Gold GS6SHEXNB00 side-by-side refrigerator. Had a technician come on site, indicated it was the "circuit board/ timer" (Whirlpool part # 1394052). Board is accessible from behind fridge (lower left side in a white plastic housing to left of compressor).

Swapped the board out (noticed a scorched circuit on the old circuit board). Lightbulbs now work, temperature readouts also good to go.

Whirlpool gold refridgerator light not working and is making funny noise

I had the same problem. Model Number GS5SHAXNL00 Light wouldn't work on the fridge side and the led's wouldn't light up. Ended up being a blown circuit path on the control board.

Check the picture.f21d241.jpg

All I did was soder a wire between the 2 points that path was connecting and *BINGO* the lights are back on!

Hope this helps someone. To find the burned out spot just look for a little black smudge on the white plastic case when you remove the board.

Lights out in the fridge side only

yes, and it should be covered under warranty. whirlpool has experienced problems with interference on this model . could have taken out one or both of these. control 2303805, and 2304056. tech must also install a ferrite insulator on control to filter interference and move the water valve wiring away from all other wires. use this info to get it fixed under warranty.
