Yes you do this from the application that yu are using to do the scan. Chooese the setup or preferences tab for the scanner in the app and you should get a list of available optical resolutions from 75dpi, 100 dpi, 200dpi, 300dpi, 600dpi, 1200dpi upwards.

The optical resolution is 1200 x 2400dpi max and interpolated (from software) is 19200 x 19200 dpi.
