What sort of noise? It could be that the belt broke -- many dryers will shut off the motor and heating elements if the belt breaks. If that doesn't match the sound that you heard, repost with more information.

The dryer has a switch in the door that is activated when the door is opened/closed, replace this switch or check the connector to it or the wiring.

Kenmore 600 dryer

Your door switch for this dryer is stuck closed or defective. The door switch controls the light to come on when the door is open while it also controls the drive motor as a safety device to stop the motor when the switch is opened. Replace the Switch.

Dryer won't start..light clicking noises

There is a switch inside the unit that stops it when the belt breaks or comes loose. Check that.

Does not turn off when door is open

The image below shows the wiring diagram for your model of dryer. The door switch is shown in the closed position. When the door is opened, the contact is broken that completes the neutral circuit through the door switch. (I am not showing that your model of dryer has a drum light. If it did, then the drum light would illuminate when the door is opened.)

Based on your symptom, a bad door switch is apparently causing this problem. It is not breaking the neutral circuit to stop the motor from running. Replacing the door switch assembly should fix this problem. NOTE: Be sure to unplug the dryer before accessing any internal components.

as far as the drum not stopping when door is opened that will be a bad door switch
the noise could be anything from a drum support roller to a blower wheel, the bearing on the motor, the rear drum bearing or even something such asa coin caught between the drum felt seal and the drum
nosies a hard to diagnose online since they dont sound the same in written form

Your dryer is equipped with a thermal fuse located behind the drum seat on the heating coil.

http://www.applianceaid.com/la-1053.html

There are two white wires connected to the fuse. Pull those off and connect together. Your door light will come on if that is your problem. There might have been a problem that caused the fuse to blow. Check for kinked dryer hoses, dirty lint traps or anything that might have caused it to overheat. You must replace the fuse or you risk catching the dryer on fire.
