Re: How open up the casing

First, remove all six screws around the base of the monitor. Then, pry the silver bezel off. It's clipped on so don't be afraid to use force, just watch out for breaking the plastic around the area you're prying. The part around the base can be difficult, so take it easy but forcefully.

Elo 1515L touch monitor. How do you open the case? There are no visible screws.

These are a major pain to open. The case halves are held together by tabs and notches all around the perimeter of the case. They are very hard to get open without scuffing the case up a bit. The easiest way to do it is with 2 small flat blade screwdrivers. You will need to insert the first one between the two halves by pressing very hard to even gently tapping the screwdriver with a small hammer. Once one is inserted you will use the other one to work around the case and pop the other tabs loose. It will take some patients to open these, they are not really designed for user serviceability. It sounds like you are having issues with the unit. The most common problem with these units is the capacitors in the power supply causing the units to not power up. Look for bulging tops, if you find any then its best to replace them all since the case is so hard to get back into. We repair these units in our service department all the time. Here is a link to our web page talking about capacitors and what to look for. If you don't want to do the repair on your monitor we can do it for you. I need to put more memory chips in. where do I do it--the monitor or tower? how do I open the cover?

The memory goes in the tower on the motherboard. Most cases come apart by unscrewing screws on one side of the back. Some have a little lever on the back that, when pushed, releases the side of the case that is opposite the motherboard.
Some cases have a button (large or small) that is recessed into the top and maybe the bottom of the case. When pushed these buttons release the catch inside the case and you can swing it open.
Once open, you will see the memory slots. By pressing the catches on each end of the memory chip, you can release them and lift the chip out. Note the position of the key on the chip socket and the slot in the memory chip when reinstalling memory.

OFTEN in addition to screws there are little plastic grabbers that have to be released to open the cases.

Open the LCD cover

I had the same problem and it was quite difficult to open the case. So now I want to share my experience on how to open it and also publish some helpfull pictures (of course these also works for the 2007 screen):

1. I made a tool from the top of a aluminium can. It's quite thin and bendable but still strong enough (make sure there are no sharp edges).
2. You have to understand how the parts of case are joined together and hold by snaps. Here a piture of a snap. The front frame has bails(?) hitching on the snaps (see picture 3).
Move the tool between the bails and the snaps so they will let go. The first snap is always difficult. Start at the top or bottom, because the sides have a "double" wall (see picture 1 black and grey) and it is difficult to find the right way.
There are five snaps on each side. Always one in the middle, one on each corner and one between. Start with the middle one. Use a screwdriver to get a little gap between the two parts of the case. Push the tool inside til the snap will let go and the case opens a little. Continue with the next snap.
When the case is open be carefull there are same cables soldered to the front part.
If you have a problem with the power button. Usually there is a thin bolt missing like the other buttons have. I glued a very small screw into the button. One like used to fix the small circuit board. Make sure the length is appropriate.
Hope this helps anybody.
