To resolve this problem, use the following steps. On the Start menu click Run. In the Run dialog box, type the following command:

Outlook.exe /resetnavpane

There is a space between "Outlook.exe" and "/resetnavpane" Click OK. Note If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may not see Run on the Start menu. In this situation, use the following steps to locate the Run option. On the Start menu click All Programs. Click Accessories. Click Run.

OE has a long and troubled history with compacting folders. In the most current version, OE compacts all folders automatically after you open and close the program 100 times. Compacting folders is absolutely essential for maintaining your files in good working order. Therefore,
Do not interrupt the process once it has begun
It is best not to use your computer at all until the process is complete, which can take a few minutes.
Under no circumstances must you ever use Task Manager to kill the msimn.exe process, or put your computer on Standby, or turn off the power, or use a memory-intensive program while compaction is occurring. Any of those can cause destruction of your files and the loss of your messages.
If you don't like waiting for that 100th closing, you can compact all folders manually at any time. For best results always use this procedure.
1: On the File menu, click Work Offline so that no new messages will be arriving
2: In the Folder list, click on Outlook Express so that no e-mail or news folder is open.
3: Close the Folder list by clicking the X in the upper right-hand corner of the list panel. Alternatively you can click Layout on the View menu, and then clear the checkbox for "Folder List”.
4: On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Compact All Folders. Do not use your computer until the process is complete, which might take several minutes.
5: If an error occurs, close Outlook Express, re-open it, and begin the process again from the top. If the same error occurs again, close Outlook Express, restart your computer (or log off and then log on again), open Outlook Express and then begin the whole process again.
Unfortunately that does not reset the internal counter to zero, so OE will still compact after the 100th closing You can edit the registry manually to reset the counter, or you can use OE TOOL to compact all folders and reset the counter at the same time. To reset it manually
1: Close Outlook Express and all message windows.
2: Click Start, click Run and type without quotes "regedit".
3: Navigate to this key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0
where GUID is the long number used for your Identity
4: In the right-hand pane, double-click "Compact Check Count", then change the value to zero(0).

When trying to use Outlook Express 6, I get an "Error Message " stating "an error occured while establishing the dail up network connection AOL Dailer"

If you are using DialUp Internet Service from AOL, try establishing a connection first and the open Outlook Express.

If you have broadband (cable/dsl) internet service from another company, then your computer is incorrectly setup. In this case, open Control Panel, Internet Options, then click on the connections tab and delete all and any listed dialup connections or simply select the "Never dial a connection" option right under the dialup connections list box.

Also, if you are not using the AOL software, I'd recommend that you uninstall it completely to free lots of resources and speed up your computer as a result. For this, go into the Control Panel, add/remove programs and remove all AOL applications from the list.

(Outlook Express) Email is not configured to relay mail to address
Try this settings:

Outlook Express
  1. Click Tools then Accounts
  2. Click Mail
  3. Click Properties
  4. Click Servers
  5. In the Account Name field, it should be the first part of your email address (probably it's like this already).
  6. Put a checkmark by My Server Requires Authentication at the bottom of the page.
  7. Click Settings
  8. Select Log on Using
    • Type Account Name (which will be your full email address)
    • Type Password (which will be your email address password)
  9. Click Apply
  10. Click OK
  11. Click Close
This should fix the Outlook Express to send email, close Outlook Express and re-open it to start sending mail.

Microsoft Outlook
  1. Click Tools then Email Accounts (Accounts and Services on older versions of Outlook)
  2. Click View and Change and Click Next (skip if it opens up to the account screen)
  3. Click Change or Properties of your Email Account
  4. Click More Settings
  5. Click Outgoing Server
  6. Check My Server Uses Authentication
  7. Select Log on Using
    • Type Account Name (which will be your full email address)
    • Type Password (which will be your email address password)
  8. Click OK
  9. Click Next
  10. Click Finish

This should fix the Outlook to send email. Close Outlook and re-open it to start sending mail.

Can't delete email in Outlook Express

What OS are you on, XP or vista?
What version of Outlook Express?
Can you still connect to the internet with a browser?
It sounds like you might have a corrupted user profile.
Please work through this article to troubleshoot this error...

Our Outlook Express has vanished from our computer. Can you tell us why and what we can do to re-install it. Thank you, Norman Crites

Click start, Click RUN, type: msimn.exe, Press <ENTER> outlook express should open. If it does, then you can create a new shortcut on the desktop by Right Clicking the blank desktop, Click NEW, Click Shortcut, type the path: "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" then finish the wizard.

If msimn.exe give an error, the go to add/remove programs, Click Add/remove Windows Components, Check the checkbox next to Outlook Express, Click Next and finish the wizard (You may be prompted for your Windows XP CD)

If you are using Windows Vista, it doesn't include Outlook Express, Vista uses Windows Mail for the default mail handler.

Transfering mail setup from Windows xp to a windos vista machine with EasySuite

I'm not 100% sure about vista because I hate it but I can help you copy all of your outlook express data to a CD\DVD disk & your address book. Your network settings for express account is a phone call to your ISP.
If vista's explorer is set up like XP you should be able to copy your data into outlook express.
Open all these folders on you XP system.
User name\Application Data\Identities\{xxxxxxx}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Copy the Outlook Express folder to your CD.
User name\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book. Copy Address Book folder.
Making sure you have everything.
Open, User name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{xxxxxxx}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Compair the two Outlook Express folder files. CD will not allow copy of same named folder.
If Vista's lay out is the same as XP than copy Outlook Express folder to Vista.
Suggest you have your current ISP setting /account setup before copying to Vista
