Can't sign in and we've been working on the email

It sounds like you forgot your password. This happens from time to time, and for the safety of your email, it will lock you out if you put in the wrong password for a certain amount of times.

Give it the 24, as I don't believe yahoo will get back to you in less the 48 hours. Once it's lifted, go to the link that says "forgot password" and reset your password.

If you didn't forget your password, it could be that someone else was trying to hack into your email, and that is what triggered it. Either way, you're kind of stuck for the full 24
