Re: hard driver (seagate)

is it a sata or ide (pata) drive? does the bios recognise it yet? if it does then you know you have a software problem which could mean you may just need to partition or format the drive.

if the bios can't even see it then you will need to change the jumper settings on the harddrive to make it compatible with your mother board.

good luck

Seagate external HDD used on XP 32 bit laptop, device not recognised on new Win 7 64 bit laptop.

It may be that you need a driver for that particular external hard drive.

Visit: and search for your specific model and see if a driver for 64-bit Windows 7 is available.

Windows xp will not recognise the seagate freeagent desktop drive

Assuming you have tried other usb ports and had no change, remove the usb connection, then go back into device manager and select the usb controller, right click and select delete as this will erase any input driver the usb port recognises. Restart the pc and then the controller should be reinstalled automatically as it sounds as though the controller has become corrupt for some reason. Go back into device manager and check there are no exclamation marks, reconnect the drive and see if it's recognised.

Seagate 9SF2A4-500 external hard drive on Windows 98

Windows 98 will not run a drive that large, so that is your problem. You will need to connect it to a newer system, and break it down into small drives by setting up different partitions. Perhaps it will see it then. Also, most manufacturers are no longer supporting Windows 98. You really need to just upgrade your system to a newer OS.

Hello. I recently installed Windows 7 64bit Ultimate edition. I was initally unable to access my seagate external HDD. I tried to take ownership and played around with the permission settings to no avail...

It may be the USB chipset on the motherboard that needs a new 64bit driver downlod. I used Driver Detective to update my Intell chipset when I upgraded to 7 now all my external drives show up. Try using other USB ports on your computer first to force the computer to reload the driver for the new port.

My Maxtor one touch mini 4 is not recognised on my pc. This has happened after my pc crashed and reconfigured.

If you still have the driver disk then try to install it again. You may need to look for the driver online. You can also try a system restore. System restore is a function your computer has. You can find it in start menu/all programs/system tools
