Fridge is no longer cold

fridge is no longer cold, makes a clicking sound about every two minutes. fridge is side by side Maytag 26.5 Cubic feet, about 10 years old. It is model # MSD2756AE. When talking to a dealer/repair place, they say it's probably the compressor and they won't replace compressors. They mentioned that it may be a relay/start switch that is the problem, but the only way to know is to have that replaced and then see if it works for the next week or two. Is there any way you can trouble shoot it without doing the repair ($125.00-150.00) that may not work. They said that if they did replace the compressor it would cost about $700.00 and so it's not worth doing. Any advice?
